Dark Spire

Post by Menegrothx »

It seems like for a long time you could get this game next to nothing, but now that I check ebay, the prices are quite high. I'm going to buy this game regardless of price, but I just wanna know if you can find this game complete in box cheap from anywhere anymore? Currently my cheapest option is 57 USD for the game+17.75 USD for shipping to Europe.

TBH, the game isn't good. I'd play it on a flashcart first before dropping money on it.

It seems it can be had at gamestop for $10; that's if you can find it (and it'll probably be cart-only).

Also, it seems to sell for $30-45 fairly frequently. If you go with ebay I'd just be patient and wait for an auction or low BIN.

edit: You can get it on amazon for $40 new. Although, I don't think amazon ships overseas.

I'll see if I can get shipping to EU from Amazon then, thanks

It has a great artstyle and it offers a gameplay experience like which you can't find from any other RPG released during the last 15 years - sounds like it's worth to me. From what I've seen in screenshots, I love the oldschool RPG style descriptions in the game.

You can get practically the same dungeon-crawling experience out of the Etrian Odyssey games but with better graphics. The Dark Spire is very much inspired by Wizardry and the like but the archaic nature of the game makes it needlessly difficult and not very fun. I'd much rather just play Ultima, Wizardry, or any other old CRPG.

I'm not really trying to dissuade you but I honestly didn't care for it. I do highly recommend downloading it first!

I'm also buying Etrian Odyssey 1 and I'm waiting for the PAL release of IV (just bought myself 3DS so these are the first DS RPGs, or any games for that matter, that I'm getting besides the copy of Fire Emblem I got with the system). Anyway what attracts me in the game is the use of text and the visuals, the game looks and feels very Western and oldschool. Since it's a Wizardry-style dungeon crawler, difficulty is to be expected. And I've heard good things about the game otherwise, good music, speed up button to use in easy fights etc.

Well if you're into the oldschool WRPG's you'll probably like this. It has flavor-text for the battles and story encounters; it's actually kind of neat.

I like The Dark Spire quite a bit, personally. Japanese "WRPGs" have always fascinated me.

I don't own it though - dat high price has kept me away.

It's very much like the older Wizardry games, so if you're into those and don't mind intentionally archaic pieces of interface then you'll enjoy it.
