Wii owners at my work are testing my limits...
I'm sick of all the Wii owners around me and the way they rave about the thing. It's become the new water cooler topic. I get it, it's a non-threatening console that non-gamers and grandmas alike can enjoy. That's all fine and dandy, but casuals all around me keep trying to sell me on it like they've been gaming for the past two decades. It's annoying as hell to hear people talking about video games like they are a new concept.
One particular lady at work asked me if I was going to get a Wii, and I replied "No, I've got a 360 and I'm busy enough with that". She was then "Why not? It's so much fun!" and proceeded to tell me about how much fun she has playing "Mario Paper Party". Okay. Right. I don't even own the console you're drooling over, and I know what game you're talking about and it's correct title. Another person at work told me how "needlessly complicated" a normal controller is, despite never owning another console besides an NES in his life. Seriously?
Even though I don't like the Wii, this is not a rant against the console itself. It just gets under my skin to hear gaming commentary from all these people. I dread this holiday season. I'm sure I'll have to endure many discussions about Wii Music at the office, while my slightest mention of Gears 2 gets blank stares.
Sorry guys. Just needed to vent.

Agreed.
Personally I have a wii and I think its pretty damn cool and the tiny percentage of games that are aimed at us are actually pretty damn good, but these people annoy me. There was a couple of them at the last place that I worked, always going on about mario and wii fit like they know all about games.
I remember one guy showing me a copy of Oot in gamestation and telling me how he remember playing it on his mates n64 once, and how he thought it was the first zelda game ever and proceeded to laugh about the primitive graphics. I just smirked at his ignorance.
Dont get me wrong, its cool that these people are getting into games and looking at me less like I'm a geek, I just wish they would do it further away from me

I have similar problems with just about everyone under 25 who considers themselves a big gamer. At least the vocal ones, in my experience the people that aren't blabbing about it all the time are the ones that actually know a thing or two.

I'm actually pretty lucky, in that I work as a programmer, so all the people around me are technically competant, and at least aware of the myriad of video games, even if they don't play many of them. When I was bragging about getting a sealed copy of Star Control 2 for the 3DO, I wasn't greeted with blank stares when I said 3DO. Instead, I got those looks of disbelief, that said "Why oh why would you WANT a 3DO?"
Most of my coworkers do have a Wii, but they tend to focus on the same core games as I do. We used to spend many nights playing Mario Kart, 6-8 of us at a time, but lately things have been too busy for that.

The Wii is just embarrasing to all true gamers.

None of my gamer friends, online or off, ever give a crap about Wii. I'm definitely the biggest Nintendo fan of the bunch, and even I haven't been impressed yet. I totally called it two years ago, about the massive success that the "Revolution" was going to have, but I had no idea that their success was going to come from everyone BUT us....the "hardcore". It really depresses me. Nintendo seems to be dying in my eyes, in a totally different way that Sega did.
I would last about 10 minutes working in gaming retail. I wouldn't make it through three Wii transactions before shouting "WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?!".

...sure, people piss me off as well, but there's really no need to begrudge people who are new to gaming - they may even mature as gamers in a few years, in which case the industry will be forced to develop a higher quality and quantity of game.

Somebody just missed the point entirely...
Anywho, I agree. The thing that pisses me off the most is that it's these people that really bog down the wii. The type of people who haven't played games long enough to know whats crap or not. "oh I like pirates of the Caribbean, I'm sure I'll like the game too!" "Wii sports is the best game ever!" "Why would I want to buy De blob, it looks weird." etc....
Don't that just look oh so tasty?

Re: Wii owners at my work are testing my limits...
I remember in the months leading up to the "Revolution" me and my brother were soaking in every bit of true and rumoured peice of Nintendo knowledge, and I read through the pages and pages of Sony's misfortune after the Wii first hit. I was excited.
Christmas rolled around and me and my brother knew we would have one. Then we got one and played some Wii Sports. 2007 rolled around and we were playing every bit of software we could get, those were happy times! Then the whole thing dried up like a dam had closed up. I haven't played a good game on that system since Wario Ware Wii, and then "good" is pushing it.
The controls got old too. After me and Danny beat DBZBT2, I had enough waggle. I needed analog, I needed the triggers, I needed buttons. I took a look at the 360's game selection and saw I made a mistake.
Then came Christmas 2007, and we were leaving in a few days to go to Tennessee, and there was this box under the tree, nicely wrapped, nice big bow. I knew that box. It was the perfect size for a 360. When nobody was looking, I got down there and checked the tab, and it had my dad's name on it.
It was a fake, it was a 360, and it was for me. Since then, I've never been without a game on the beautiful piece of machinery, and I've never looked over my shoulder at Nintendo. Not once. I feel like the 360 is the rightful successor to the Dreamcast, and that's why I love it. It never gets old.
As for Nintendo, after this generation, I don't think I'll take their bait again. I'll go for the 360's successor. I'm also getting rid of my DS now. They've failed me this generation.
