Dreamcast problem - games on my TV in the wrong colours

I've encountered a strange problem with my Dreamcast - when I boot it up the main screen with Play, File, Settings etc on displays fine but when I load games the colours are all wrong - heavy blue/purple/black colours and not many lighter ones. These games have previously been displayed fine, it only just started happening.

Any ideas? They're burnt games but they were fine previously. Thanks for any help or suggestions!

GPU overheating? I've never seen this problem before but it may be due to artefacting. What that means is the GPU has over heated and which results in miscalculations and therefore anomalies in the screen. How long as the DC been switched on for when you started seeing these problems? Was the DC hot? Is the fan still spinning when the system is switched on?

tap the connector where it goes into the console, I have 1 dreamcast that does this frequently.

Thanks for the replies - Niode, the problem begins as soon as I load a game so it can't be an overheating problem.

silverback - I've tried tapping the cable, unplugging and reconnecting, nothing seems to work. The game colours are mainly blue, yellow and green. Any other suggestions? Please help!

Does it do it on non-burned (original issue) games? Does it do this on all games or only certain ones?

I'm ashamed to say I only have burned games I only bought it a short time ago and it's hard to find original DC games here.

It does it on every game. Could the fact that it's fine on the DC setup menus but not in games mean it's having an issue with burned games, even though it never did previously?

I'd sure try an original game before assuming the system is at fault.

But, just because the system menus look fine but the game screens do not may not have anything to do with how the games were made. The system menus are coming from a hardwired source in the machine not from the software source on the disc.

Yeah, the fact that the system menu comes up and displays fine, proves that there's nothing wrong with the cable.

Only thing to do now is to try an original. Don't forget you can always get DC games for next to nothing on ebay. Any game will do. Just get the cheapest one you can find.

If the original game works fine, does anyone know why my DC would've suddenly stopped running burned games correctly? And can it be fixed?

I dunno, the only thing I can think of is corrupt textures on the disk. Either that or the DC just can't read the games correctly.

I still think it's a GPU issue personally. If the heatsink isn't sat properly it could over heat within seconds, causing the graphical glitches.
