But PAL gamecube, that I can think of anyway, may not be set Japanese.
Affected NTSC-J games will get permanently stuck with text issues or inability to save.
Not worried about NTSC-J, but thanks I do appreciate it.

I hear you on that. I may go the xrgb route eventually, but I like that the PVM's don't need clean sync; I can just use scart cables that use composite video for sync and I have no issues.
Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.

Yes, it varies by console. Scart itself has pins for stereo sound. The Genesis 1 (the big one) only carried mono audio to the AV port, hence that cable only carrying mono sound. You can get stereo sound from the headphones jack. On my console I put RCA jacks on the back that pull from the headphones jack internally.

Thanks finally an answer to that question, researching scart was really making my head spin. I've noticed one issue with the xrgb-mini when playing Symphony of the Night on my Saturn with s-video when i press the button to bring up the menu it seems to lose its digital HDMI handshake with the xrgb and the TV for like 10 seconds. I have only noticed this with SOTN and no other game so far, not sure why this happens but hopefully a scart cable will fix this?
No idea on that one, sorry. Almost sounds like a sync issue. However, the RGB scart cable will definitely be a huge improvement over s-video, and hopefully it fixes that.

xrgb mini is slow to change resolution. for gamecube any game you set to 480p will have that wait, or any game of different mode from the OS boot menu.
