Anyone used a PAL gamecube to play NTSC-U games?
Given the obnoxious cost of gamecube component cables recently, and the fact that the PAL consoles output scart RGB, I'm considering buying a PAL cube and a scart cable.
Has anyone used NTSC-U games on a PAL cube with RGB scart? Do the games run at 60hz?

Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.
Consoles: I have too much stuff
Arcade: No seriously, I have too much stuff. Someone grab a shovel and dig me out of my basement.

why the heck are people paying outrageous costs for GCN component cables? Why not just play gamecube games on a wii with component? Sure you can't play GBA games on it without an emulator but I can't imagine there is any difference between S-video and Component for GBA games since they don't output 480P.

Re: Anyone used a PAL gamecube to play NTSC-U games?
I'm not too huge on wii games, i really only care about gamecube games. I can't see why anyone would pay that much for the gamecube cables, I sold mine back when they were only worth like $50.
The PVM's im using don't do 480P anyway (just 240P and 480i). RGB looks way better than s-video on them (and s-video still looks pretty good).
I just want RGB output from a gamecube (or maybe wii...), but only the PAL consoles have it. You can't use an RGB scart cable on any US wii's or cubes. Component would be acceptable if it had to be, and I may end up just doing that (NTSC wii with component video).
Luckily my PVM's support both PAL and NTSC, so the main thing is making sure NTSC-U games would play full speed regardless of the video format being output by the system.

I'm just saying a wii and component is less expensive then buying GCN component cables. Best option for playing Gamecube games by far, also hack it and the emulators on it are awesome, the Wii is a great little machine if you just utilize it. you can easily find a Wii console and remote on Craigslist all over the place for $40-$60.

Not arguing that at all, that's a known factninjainspandex wrote:I'm just saying a wii and component is less expensive then buying GCN component cables.
At this point, a PAL Gamecube, Scart cable, and UK freeloader all together would still be cheaper than a GCN component cable

I dunno shipping from the UK would probably cost as much as the gamecube, unless you somehow found one stateside. I'm jelly of your sony PVM (fat chance of me finding one locally in Wisconsin), but I just got an XRGB-mini and im trying to track down scart cables for all my systems now. Anyone know where I can find a D-terminal to female component adpater

Re: Anyone used a PAL gamecube to play NTSC-U games?
NTSC-U games should be OK enough.
But PAL gamecube, that I can think of anyway, may not be set Japanese.
Affected NTSC-J games will get permanently stuck with text issues or inability to save.
D-terminal to component is slightly expensive for what it is. Not that there's many choices.
An example to start with here. http://www.solarisjapan.com/d-terminal- ... le-female/

Be certain to find some kind of scart adapter also. XRGB-mini includes a japan rgb cable (wrong pinout!).ninjainspandex wrote:I dunno shipping from the UK would probably cost as much as the gamecube, unless you somehow found one stateside. There are plenty of PAL cubes on ebay already in the states
No way I'd pay UK shipping, it's expensive enough to mail vinyl records, let alone anything else.
Component to d-terminal isn't too hard to hunt down.
It's definitely hard to find PVMs in the midwest. I had my first one shipped to me, to the tune of ~60 shipping. Totally worth it. Then I just recently found a few locally after like a year long hunt.
Tekyard medical is the way to go for PVMs if you can't get one locally. You can get one to your door for 100 to 150 total on the right day. http://www.ebay.com/itm/SONY-PVM-1943MD ... 4ac5eda46a
Those 1943MD's support everything but component. If you track down their real site, they have 20M2MDU's too, which I'd recommend spending the extra money on. I paid $80 plus shipping for my M2MDU, which takes component on the RGB inputs.
They double-box and bubble wrap the living hell out of them too. It took me like 20 minutes to unbox it.

Re: Anyone used a PAL gamecube to play NTSC-U games?
well now that I have an XRGB-mini I don't think I'd bother with the money or headache of shipping a PVM. If one popped up locally for sub $100 I'd probably jump on it. I'm just sick of lugging around heavy ass crt TVs haha. My 38 inch HD-CRT was a bitch to get up stairs
