I can't believe they had Superman kill at the end of the movie, seems worse than Batman killing to me. I was genuinely shocked.
The point of that is that Superman hasn't learned how to neutralize that kind of threat yet and Zod really left him no alternative. Based on his reaction, you can tell he hated to do it and feels awful about it, but it was the only way to stop Zod once and for all. If he put Zod back in the Phantom Zone, there's no guarantee he wouldn't simply escape again and Supes wasn't certain he could survive a rematch. Plus, there's the civilians to consider. Their first battle completely destroyed half of Metropolis and caused who knows how many deaths, so he wasn't willing to risk another fight like that. All told, I'd say the film more than justifies his actions.

Sorry I wasn't trying to say they weren't justified, just that it was shocking to see Superman kill and is more shocking Batman.

And to point it out again, that's exactly how he dealt with that same situation in the comics. Superman v2 #23. It deeply affected him afterwards, though.

Sorry I was trying to go back and see everyone's thoughts in the thread about it, but it is really hard to search through all the posts.

Pacific Rim. Just as good the second time.

Also there were mini marquee posters. Grabbed a stack.

Jerry Lewis is the man, as per usual, and this is easily one of the best De Niro performances I've seen yet. Definitely a new Scorsese favorite for me. Can't wait for the rumored October 29th blu-ray release. Talk about a forgotten gem.

I wish they would've set that up better. Like have a scene earlier where he had the chance to kill Zod or someone else but didn't take it because of a refusal to kill. It would've been a more powerful pay-off having him have to go against his principles if we had established earlier that he had them.

Well, they kinda sorta did. It was more of a what-to-do dilemma set up than kill or not kill setup. I'm referring to the scene with Jonathan and the tornado. He didn't act because Jonathan told him not to. With Zod, he DID act, and he still regretted it.

Watched DESPICABLE ME 2 last night. I loved the first one and this one blew it out of the water. The scene in the hair restoration store and Gru pointing his crotch at everything had me rolling.

And of course the 21 Fart Gun Salute (plus 1) cracked me up. Fart humor wins with me every time.

Zod's death didn't get a peep from the audience I saw it with, as most were probably asleep from boredom. I'm sorry, but that scene was stupid and made no sense.

1) Superman allows thousands to die in the fight, but all of a sudden takes action when a family of four is in danger. Makes no sense.

2) Why doesn't the family move? They don't even run away. It reminds of the scene in Austin Powers where a guard is run over with a steam roller. "Noooooooooo!". Makes no sense.

3) Zod's eye beams are slower than my oscillating fan. Makes no sense.

4) Lois Lane just so happens to cross all of Metropolis in seconds and just happens to show up at the museum? Makes no sense.

And screw all that "comic book movies don't need to make sense" talk. Every movie is a work of fiction, so that is not an excuse to be stupid.

Question: Why is it that critics loved The Avengers, which is just as "stupid" and "nonsensical", and arguably more so, but are now criticizing Man Of Steel for being pretty much the exact same type of movie? Seriously, do you like movies like this or don't you? MAKE UP YOUR MINDS!
