ah PS3 right right. Yeah I don't have Plus myself as a lot of the free downloads that I think are awesome, I'd still rather have physical copies of. And due to controller preference (and comfort of logistics in my gameroom) I tend to buy all my games on 360 UNLESS they're very heavily online titles (like fighting games).

We did UFO Defense. That was more than enough.Menegrothx wrote:Together retro should feature UFO: Enemy Unknown
I think we've purposefully stayed away from doing a game in the same series/franchise for TR since people are encouraged to play the series in any given month we pick a game.

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown (on 360/PS3)
so even after hitting a game over I found myself compelled to keep playing this. I've racked about another 8 or 9 hrs since starting over.
I've gotta say this though - as much as I love Enemy Unknown, I think it would be a perfect game (for me) if there was no base management. I know that's part of the point of XCOM games and all, but I just enjoy those bits less (probably because I'm just not as good at them). I enjoy managing my troops, leveling them up, and all that. But I don't know. The research and managing of money, satellites, scientists, engineers AND facilities - and no matter how hard I try I never seem to have what I need to launch anymore satellites so I'm constantly trying to just make sure countries aren't abandoning the project.
I've said before that I was a big fan of Rebelstar: Tactical Command on GBA, and part of that was it had the X-COM battles but didn't bother with base management.

If anything, it needs more base management and a more diverse tech tree. The combat itself is great. But the choices on how you develop your base are pretty limited. This limits replay value.

While there is less choice compared to the original X-COM, I feel like a lot of the original was false choice. Setting up secondary bases was most useful for their radar and intercept coverage. You still wanted a single base that had all your soldiers, as managing two bases worth of soldiers was a good way to send an underequipped squad at a crashed battleship. And you'd want the soldier base to be your manufacturing hub so you didn't need to deal with transfer time. So in theory you could create a secondary base for your scientists, but research was fast enough that it wasn't necessary.Hatta wrote:If anything, it needs more base management and a more diverse tech tree. Now, one thing I would have liked to see is base defense missions. Once I had the globe fully blanketed I felt like I was in maintenance mode until the next story event got researched. The rate of alien activity never gave me a feeling of needing to work quickly in order to win before I get overwhelmed, while you definitely had that in the original.

In general, you want to rush satellites. Sell things on the grey market as needed, but get those satellites up to cover the globe. Once you do you will never see an abduction mission again, which means you shouldn't need to worry about panic management. This also means you get a ton of money rolling in, which also helps your game. Ideally you'll have a steam vent within the first two levels so you can have enough power for your satellite blitz without spending too much on excavation costs.

that seems to be my problem. I can't get them up fast enough. Right now I have two satellite uplinks but still no satellites available? Why? What am I doing wrong? I'm guessing I don't have enough scientists or engineers? But I need to do alien abductions to get more of them right?MrPopo wrote:In general, you want to rush satellites.
