1. Pay off debts.
2. Put enough aside for a home one day--maybe like $250,000 at the most.
3. College Fund for our future children.
4. 1M to family - $500,000 to our parents, 500,000 spread out across the rest of my family.
5. Take the remaining 3.5 Million, put it into Jumbo Money Market Savings accounts. 1 for a scholarship fund for our Alma Mater, the other just to compound interest and use it for travel.
So you win the lottery.

My Father owns some planes and has always wanted to buy an ultra-glide (No, not the bike nor a sex lube, but a wing with a motor), set up a landing strip (again, nothing to do with sex) and a hangar on around a five acre area.
Now that he is retiring, he's very much "Screw that. Too much work".
If I ever moved to "bfe" or "the middle of nowhere" I would move into a small two bedroom log cabin near Lake Michigan with lake access.

When moving to a "middle of nowhere" lakes region (like where I live) you gotta first check and see if it's a tourist destination.
My town is. The population doubles come July, the roads become congested, and I start to get damn irritated. Tried to get an ice cream in "the village" the other day and couldn't find a place to park.
My dream home would be closer to the ocean than a lake, honestly.

Buy myself a private island and a boat. Build a self sufficient house (solar panels, water conservation systems etc) with it's own farm. If possible, invest in a biomass->biofuel system
The rest of the money:
Supplies (ammunition, spice, medicine, spare parts, batteries etc)
Invest in something that's safe and stable
Give some to my parents
Pray that sea level won't rise and that there won't be any droughts

I'd like to say I'd be responsible but most likely I'd spend at least 50 grand on the old hundred dollar bill and fishing pole trick outside of an orphanage.
From there I'd probably buy a cash only bar to laundry money and work there to mess with drunk people. Probably use a proxy to buy and manage the bar just so I could keep my anonymity.
Maybe I'd buy a farm, legally grow marijuana and never have to work again. This one has actually been a life long dream of mine and I don't even smoke.

Re: So you win the lottery.
After I was done paying off my student loans, providing for my children's education, investing, etc., etc., I would send a PM to every "next gen" member of this site asking them to pick one game for their collections. I would then send purchase all of the games and send them out as a "thank you" to this great community.

You'd be surprised how cheap a private island can run.Luke wrote:5 Million. Not 500 Billion.Menegrothx wrote:Buy myself a private island and a boat.

And a big *pfffffffffffffffffft* to buying an island. Raid, plunder, build a moat and call that floating piece of dirt "Luke Island".

They're not that expensive. Finding an island that is large enough for farming food&medicinal herbs that has a replenishing water supply that's large enough, now that's another story.
