Tell me about your favorite tennis games.

I've been really into tennis games lately. It all started with Mario Tennis on N64 and Virtua Tennis on Dreamcast - the obvious ones. They were fun, especially with 4-player, but I'm looking for something a little more interesting.

My favorite tennis game now is Hot Shots Tennis on PSP. Fast-paced, technical, full of variety, and wonderfully ridiculous.

I have probably had the most fun with Wii Sports Tennis. Before that, the only "tennis" game I really enjoyed was Pong.

I've played Wii Sports Tennis. I like the idea of a motion-controlled Tennis game that actually works, but it was too dumbed down for me. There's only one type of shot, which you can't aim, and characters who run around automatically. Dealbreaker.

Mario Tennis 64 and Virtua Tennis 3 on the PC are the two I play the most and I have no real desire to buy any others.

I'll agree that Wii Sports Tennis is dumbed down too much. But it is a lot of fun. I mean it came with our Wii when we first got it, and it's still one of our most played games haha. In that respect, I gotta give it props as I generally hate motion controls. WST really got it right.

Virtua Tennis (and Tennis 2K2) as you already mentioned are pretty must-have. I haven't played much else in the series though (save a PSP game) so I'm curious how the current-gen entries are?

BTW, there's actually a Sega Sports Tennis on PS2 - IE: Virtua Tennis on PS2 that's worth playing. There's also a tennis game on PS2 published by Atlus that I was always curious about. I mean Atlus? Tennis? Anyone play that one and can comment?

The only Mario Tennis I played was on GBC, but it was definitely fun. Again - how are the later ones? Oh, and related - Tennis on GB was a pretty fun precursor to the Mario Tennis series.

Sega Superstar Tennis is fun and worth playing. I mean it's basically Virtua Tennis with fan-service.

Oh and I recently played Tennis on 2600. I found it impossible to score a single point.

A pawn shop here in Charlotte has a few copies of that game, but is looks so generic that I cannot justify the shelf space and $1 it would cost me to get it...

wow, never heard of this one. Now if you want to talk golf games, one of my absolute favorites is one that nobody ever talks about: Pangya Fantasy Golf (PSP) - which got a sequel on the Wii under a completely different name.

If you like Virtua Tennis on the DC, Wimbledon Championship Tennis on the Genesis is a must play. It's basically 16-bit Virtua Tennis as far as the settings and controls go.

Not to derail the topic...but this may be the best Atlus game of all time:



An Xbox exclusive fishing game featuring a scantily-clad woman on the cover is exactly what I would expect from that company...

EDIT: Also, Hard Hitter Tennis is the very generic-looking tennis game that Atlus published for the PS2.

Virtua Tennis 3 is the same as 2 just with more minigames and more of a roster. AFter that there is VT4 and VT2009, 09 does not have the best reviews so

You have to play N64 or Gamecube version in multiplayer, it is Virtua Tennis with powerups. The Wii version is a port of the Cube one with motion controls (so kinda like an upgrade to Wii Tennis), and isnt half bad, but if you have the choice, Gamecube is the way to go.
