I never do easy. While for some games it may make the learning curve shorter, by mid way through once tou have the hang of it and the challenge is gone, I wouod lose interest.

you just reminded me of another recent game - Ni No Kuni. I remember reading an editor in EGM saying that he loved the game, but found it far more enjoyable on Easy because the only diff between Easy and Normal was the amount of grinding needed before boss fights and it seemed to F up the flow of the game.

Thoughts?

I've only place about a half hour of Ni No Kuni so far (on Normal) so really can't comment.

But I was seriously just curious as like I said, I've heard folks saying that it turned the game into just a more fun game to them. I think it was writers at Joystiq and Kotaku if I recall. Maybe it was Nintendolife? I've read several reviews of it recently.

That said, I always attempt Normal - but there have been games in the past where I felt I'd enjoy a lower difficulty. Like if it were a genre I wasn't all that familiar with the mechanics or something. And on the flip, I generally play fighting games at the hardest difficulty.
I found that most reviewers that mentioned liking easy better weren't really hardcore RPG gamers. Or are more used to Persona, which is SUPER easy in comparison. And that is fine. I am glad they made SMTIV more accessible than previous games. That probably helped a lot with the very positive reviews this game has gotten.

I'd prefer Ni no Kuni with no battling. That battle system was the most unfun JRPG battle system I've played in years.

I haven't played ni no kuni yet. Those review sites are for the mainstream gamer unused to rpgs. I have found a lot of their playstyle recommendations aren't aligned with my own. Not to say there aren't exceptions, but that's generally the case.

Red Seeds is pretty much the same way. Playing on Normal/Hard just makes the enemies have larger health bars; it doesn't make the game more challenging- just more tedious.

Lower health bars can make a boss fight significantly easier.

I moved Bayonetta to Easy and enjoyed it way more (although I still haven't finished it), so I think it depends on the gamer and the genre.
