One thing I'm looking at, and at this point, seems weird to me, is the idea that I might stop liking metal in the future. I just kinda think about it, and it kinda hits me like a brick. Now, metal isn't in the best state currently- its stuck in the underground, like a deep buried hated king. And I know that, unless I manage to get lucky, I'm not going to find very many girls around in the future who will bathe in the metal cesspools with me. And if I do, what are the chances that they are into deathcore and other assorted muck? Higher than hell. I'm also in a very specific part of metal. I like clean singing, and I prefer older styles. That leaves me in a very small sector of metal coverage wise.

It just seems like no matter what I do, all these things, along with my preferences musically, will lead me to just sticking with my main musical mainstay of country. I think of where I'll be down the road- I can't see myself sitting in the car and throwing horns to Candlemass with my wife and kids in there with me. There's also the fact that, as much as I love music, I get aggravated at how much my music research cuts into my hobby time.

Meh, if metal was as easy to research as country is, I wouldn't have any issues.

Long amounts of time alone, mixed with tendencies to talk to myself and a lack of good TV, along with low allowance for videogames and comics leads me to shit like that.

Well I'm off work now so I can at least respond to a few things in more depth:

"Not in the best state?" Based on what metric? Metal's always been underground, that's where everything exciting has always happened. The more successful periods (in terms of mainstream popularity) have basically been a result of the underground scene just bubbling over so to speak.

How many classic bands have reunited over the past few years? It wouldn't make financial sense to do something like that if the scene was dying. Hell you're into Doom, which is arguably more popular right now than it's ever been.

...besides, even if it were true, the amount of awesome hidden gems that are already there in the underground is absolutely staggering. Without even needing to know exactly what you listen to, I can guarantee that you've likely only barely scratched the surface of what Doom, Heavy, Speed, and Power Metal have to offer. Traditional styles are FAR from a "very small sector."

Then stop "researching" for a little while and just get more intimate with what you already know. Maybe explore the discographies of bands you're already into, check out the albums most people overlook, etc.

Last of all though... trust me, whether or not you'll be able to find a girl who's into absolutely everything you're into should be the last thing on your mind. Having hobbies in common is nice, but its not at all necessary for a strong relationship. Don't worry about that.

I guess it was a slip of the tongue, not married yet!

It's on the cards though. Weddings can be expensive, we've considered signing the papers for now and doing the ceremonial stuff later.
