I was just joking around. Honestly, it doesn't in any way. I'm just kind of joking about how some of his stuff seems to completely out of fucking nowhere.Retrodude wrote:It does? How?Forlorn Drifter wrote:^That explains some of his scripts.

Just saw Menace II Society last night. I haven't seen it since the 90s. It has not aged well. I didn't know Samuel L Jackson was in it.
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
Ah, I see. Yeah, his stuff does seem kinda random, but that's why I like it. He makes the exact film he wants to make and doesn't care what people think and because of that, his films are among the most brilliant I've ever seen (Kill Bill, anyone?). I wish more filmmakers were like him.Forlorn Drifter wrote:I was just joking around. Honestly, it doesn't in any way. Just got back from Pacific Rim. Holy shit!
I agree with Gunstar Green though. It was definitely pure style and zero plot or characters, so I can see people being kind of whatever about it. But god damn did the mecha fan in me freaking love it. I wouldn't consider myself easily wooed by special effects or the idea of 3D, but watching that was really something else and very enjoyable. The camera work stood out to me, you could really soak in the monster designs and clearly see the action, as opposed to a lot of action movies having annoying shaky cam.
I find it funny that currently the best live action mecha movie came out of Hollywood and was done by a Mexican guy.

I really enjoyed it. And I'm only 32.Luke wrote:If there was a "Focus Group" cut of THIS IS 40, you'd probably enjoy it. I think I saw it in 2011, and I loved it. But yeah, the theatrical release took away a lot, and added in at least a half hour of more bickering.SNKnicotine wrote:Just watched This is 40....should have been called "This is Garbage".

Just got back. I'm not a big "mech guy" or "monster film guy", though I've seen my share of each. That said, surprisingly I'm in the same camp as you guys = I loved the film. It hit all the right notes and takes this summer's action-popcorn film title handily (and it is much better than the vast majority of recent superhero films). Del Toro's streak of amazing effects work and beautiful film-making continues, and I'm sure I had a transfixed look and a big stupid grin on my face for almost the entire thing. Go see it.
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
Glad to see all the love for Pacific Rim. I rarely recommend movies, but I would this one.

I guess I need to find someone to go with me to Pacific Rim.
GROWN UPS 2
Meh. I laughed some, but it was just a case of going with good buddy. That helped, but I still wasn't impressed. A very PG13 comedy- if it could have been R, it could have been a lot better.

Saw Silent Hill: Revelations 3D. I was a huge fan of the first one, but didn't really enjoy this one. 6/10 from me.

I've been meaning to see that. I assume there's new characters in this one considering how the first one ended, but it wouldn't surprise me to see the previous protagonist cameo as one of the crazed townsfolk.Metal Militia wrote:Saw Silent Hill: Revelations 3D.
