I didn't enjoy 64. At least not enough to finish it. I thought Sunshine was okay, and managed to finish that one (The non-flood sections were the most fun for me).

So, perhaps with a bout of masochism, I figure I'll give one of the Galaxy games a shot. So which one should I start with? I know that G2 introduced Yoshi, but I actually don't like Yoshi so if there's any sections where you're forced to ride him that would be a negative imo. Also are either of them compatible with the classic controller?

The only 3D Mario game I've ever really played and liked was Mario Sunshine (crappy camera, and all) so bearing that in mind, I would probably recommend starting with Galaxy 2. I haven't played it, because I hated the first Mario Galaxy, and I really don't see what would be all that much different about the second, but the general consensus seems to be that the second one is better. I'm pretty sure the first one does not work with the classic controller, at least as there are some pointer actions that I believe require the wii mote. I really don't mind the wii mote + nunchuck control scheme for games that don't have overly intrusive/crappy motion controls and such. (Skyward Sword.) It's basically a two-button set up where you can rest your hands the length of the nunchuck cord, and can use each button with a different finger. The troubles appear when a game tries to overly utilize the Dpad and 1+2 buttons.

You need to use Wii Mote + Nunchuck for Mario Galaxy.

I've always thought of Mario Galaxy as basically those levels expanded into a whole game.

Super Mario Galaxy is my favorite 3D Mario game, and it is just a sublime experience on so many levels. Super Mario Galaxy 2 was not quite as impressive to me, but only because I spent so much time with the original.

I guess it wasn't necessary to anger the gods of video game punditry. Pretty much all of those that I listed (with the exception of a few) are available to play on Wii hardware anyway. You pretty much have the current best of all generations of Nintendo wrapped in one special box no matter what your opinions of the best Zeldas/Marios/DKs/SSBs are.

There's plenty of third party options as well, so you really can't go wrong with a Wii.

This thread seems to work for dedicated Wii questions so here we go:

Outside of Skyward Sword, are there any other games that Nintendo released a patch for? I know there was talk of the servers going down so you couldn't get the update any longer. Is that still true?

On the flipside, if you were to play Skyward Sword on the WiiU - would it download the patch?
