The end of NCAA games?
The end of NCAA games?

We've already gone 4-5 years without NCAA Basketball in video game form, and now it looks like NCAA Football will soon follow suit (despite selling well, it would seem).
There's a long history of great college-based video games that I'd be sad to see die. Anyone hold out much hope that things will get worked out? I'm finding it hard to be optimistic...

Re: The end of NCAA games?
Does this mean we will never see a sequel to College Slam???...
On topic...the absence of video games without NCAA licenses leaves too much money on the table. It may take some time to get things sorted, but someone will pick it up eventually.

Re: The end of NCAA games?
It isn't NCAA displeased with EA, it is the lawsuits the licensing has been getting from current and former players. EA still has licenses with the schools, so a game may still be possible.

Re: The end of NCAA games?
I know that the reason is because of the suits, but I don't see how a game would be possible without the endorsement of the NCAA. Just because EA has deals with various schools, wouldn't the NCAA's decision take precedent?Jmustang1968 wrote:It isn't NCAA displeased with EA, it is the lawsuits the licensing has been getting from current and former players. (and shouldn't it?)

They could do it without. But no ncaa logo, no official bowls, no conferences.dsheinem wrote:I know that the reason is because of the suits, but I don't see how a game would be possible without the endorsement of the NCAA. They may not as unlicensed sports games struggle to sell.

EA should just bring back Mutant League and loosely name all the characters after College players.

It may even just be name and logo only. Call it college football 15. They can independently license everythint else.

Re: The end of NCAA games?
As more and more conferences pull out, things are really looking dire for the future of the franchise. This is pretty much it but hopefully like NCAA2k8, the sports gaming community will put out new rosters for as long as EA keeps the servers online.
I like the game this year a good bit, although the Ultimate Team stuff just doesn't do much for me.
Also, I still find it humorous that Ed O'Bannon was one of the first athletes to sue the NCAA over this. And while Ed's angle was more about videos, jerseys, etc (completely legit - see the Manziel fallout), I always like to think he's just pissed he didn't get paid to be in Coach K College Basketball for the Genesis.
