this reminds me, I had been contemplating re-naming all my characters after people I know to help me better remember who is who on the battlefield. I'm usually pretty lazy about such things, but who knows - next female sniper to climb the ranks might just be MrPopo.

Dave Heineman will def be a weak soldier I use as alien-bait. We all serve our purpose.

Question: I've now managed to have 3 countries stop their support for the XCOM project. Is it possible to get these countries back on board? Or is it like, once they're gone they're gone? (I'm assuming that if all countries stop support then it's game over, man?)

One of my friends did that. He named the very first redheaded guy he got after me. He died in the last battle of my friends game. I was proud.

Once the countries are gone, they're gone. Once enough countries have left it's game over. I don't remember the exact number, but it's indicated in the lights at the bottom/top (don't remember which) of the country overview screen.

Note that the alien abduction missions, which are the ones that guarantee you're going to get panic SOMEWHERE (all other missions you can react to and prevent panic) can only happen to countries without a satellite. Once you get full satellite coverage over all remaining countries the game gets much easier.

damn. Like I said, already lost 3 countries. I really stumbled w/ the satellite thing though. I didn't realize which resources I needed to launch them, so I just went so long with only one or two launched. Man... haha I've already put in 12 hrs in the past week. Would really suck to hit a legit Game Over.

Damnit I have so many games to play but you are tempting me to play xcom again.

you should, it's awesome. I've been playing so much my wife came in the room last night and said "every time I come in here I just see you making a guy crouch down behind something."
