When I think "In the wild" I think of yard sales, flea markets, pawn shops, thrift stores, etcetera.

I mentioned my local retro video game store for comparison. I don't consider that "in the wild".

Me too, you live in Wisconsin too if my memory is correct?

I've always assumed that "in the wild" just meant you found it locally/in person

Come north, it gets better. Fewer shops to sell to means more rummage sales with games.

when you guys say "in the wild," do you include resale shops (Buy/Sell/Trade) or are you strictly talking flea markets/thrift stores/yard sales?
I usually consider anything in person as "in the wild". I may think of it differently in a larger area that pulls in more stuff, but the game inventory at the thrift stores here usually changes faster than most of the game stores.

It wouldn't be impressive for me to go online and buy a copy of Project Justice right now. I can get it whenever, there are always going to be people selling it online.

But if I were to find it in a local shop, to me that would be just as shocking as finding it at a thrift store or rummage sale. You just don't see titles like that in my town (unless you're dealing with a collector), so to me it doesn't matter where I find it locally. It's still in the wild to me.

Saturn games can especially be very difficult to find, since I started collecting for it I have gotten panzer dragoon, shining force 3, alberts odyssey, panzer dragoon saga, nights and shining the holy ark..my best advice is if you can find a quality game to buy at a store..odds are grab it cause it won't last long...but the games can really cost an arm and a leg

If all else fails just learn Japanese

I have seen quite a bit of Saturn and Sega CD at local game shops, but the prices on those most would consider to be quite high. I will occasionally see stuff like this at pawn shops, but most of the time its just common stuff, and the rare things they have I wouldn't be surprised if its been in the case for several years, due to the high price. But if you only consider thrift shops as in the wild, the only thing I've see there was a boxed copy of WoW, which I don't think the store owner had realized it was essentially worthless.

I do see Master System games occasionally, but when I asked the guy working there if they had any consoles, he didn't even know there was such a thing.

I guess in summary, I do see a decent selection of things at the mall kiosk/stores, and locally run game shops. Just don't expect any bargains.

I remember when i first got my Saturn think it was 2 summers ago now. I went to a well know flea market in this area. Its both outside and inside. They had tons of beat up atari games and NES games. One inside vendor was dedicated to video games mostly SNES/N64. I asked him do you guys have any Dreamcast or Saturn games. He gave me the craziest look/stare for about 3 seconds and didnt say anything.... :? I sort of stood there for about 5 seconds then walked away.... It was a small booth where he sat in the entrance so if figured it was better to ask than to rummage through his stuff.

PS..Flojo gives good advice....

You guys think that retro video game stores count as "the wild"? Really? That's like fishing in a stocked pond. Someone already stocked the shelves of the store with retro video games; it's not a surprise to find retro video games there.

Yard sales are more like "the wild" in that I may or may not find any retro video games at all. It's like fishing on the open ocean where I may or may not catch fish.
