Why have Fallout 3 and Far Cry 2 been pirated on 360 long before PC? And why are they topping the torrent charts? Hell, the top 5 torrents at blackcats right now are 360 and nothing else. Further, 15 of the top 20 seeded torrents are for 360. I want explanations to all these sensationalist blog stories.
I just want some definitive proof for all these claims that PC is a piracy playground. Just because a game sold poorly on PC doesn't mean that the mathematical difference in sales to the console version is the factual number of pirated downloads.
Piracy is just as crazy on 360 as it is on PC. It's just more vocal on PC because it doesn't require hardware modifications. The point that no one pays attention to however, is that once a console is modded, copying/burning games for it is 10x easier than it is for PC games. That's all I have to say.
Yeah, it's sad that PC pirating is brought up as "an epidemic" while the 360 pirating is just as bad, if not worse. Really, the reason that the PC gaming market has gone down is that the gaming PC is no longer better than the gaming console (control schemes aside). So more people are getting their fix on the console. Plus, the recent trend of PC games to ALL be massive power hogs means that you can buy a game and have it not run on your machine. So people pirate it, find that it's mediocre, and never purchase it, instead of the console version, which is buy it, find the game is mediocre, and never play it again (or sell it to Gamestop). Only one of these scenarios counts as a sale. Thus, piracy is "killing" the PC gaming market.

Eh, i've always chosen to actually pay for the games I like to play. happened with id and blizzard games i played. I bought the copies because i put so many hours into it, i felt it was well deserved.
I think the problem isn't only piracy, but also ethics in the gaming community.

Never even heard of that...hmmm.
Stardock Games? They don't care if you pirate their games. They don't require a CD key or anything. Instead, you have to have the CD key to access updates, which they do on a minor basis almost daily for their releases. Mind you, often times it's just minor tweaks to see if something will work better or worse then, but it's a nice perk if you want to pay them. Oh, but if a game-breaking bug is found, they'll put that patch out for free for everybody, because they just want people to play their games. Among my PC gaming friends, Stardock has an A+ reputation. Compare that to the makers of Titan's Quest.

I know they made Sins of the Solar Empire, which was said to have sold a ton considering the budget, team size, and lack of copy protection. I just generally hate RTS games though so I didn't try it.
Why do you bring up Titan's Quest? I bought TQGold and regret it entirely.
Iron Lore Entertainment ran out of money and the president of their company when on some angry rant about how the only reason they failed was because everyone kept pirating their game. In fact, it seemed to be his only reasoning for the failure of the company as a whole.
Oh, and I'm not a fan of RTSs either, but Stardock does some good work, and I like Civ-type strategy games. Galactic Civilizations was just like the Civ series, only in space. And it let me design my own spaceships.
I feel that PC piracy isn't as rampant as some like to say. I understand the usual temptations and justifications people use to explain why they pirate games.
I would have found the post Mozgus made to be silly a few months ago, but I've come around to seeing how rampant piracy is everywhere. There are modded 360s to be found just about everywhere; I've seen dozens on craigslist and more in pawn shops. There are services to get your console modded just about everywhere. I still believe that people pirate PC games more, but piracy on console is pretty rampant as well.
I am personally a big supporter of Steam. I've bought Half-life 2, Half Life Episodes, and Portal - like most other legit PC gamers. I've also picked up Söldner-X: Himmelsstürmer, which runs off of the disc in an attempt to fend off pirates.
I've also loaded SSF and just about every Saturn shmup available. I've also taken every SNES game ever made, but have only bothered to play a select few. Piracy is so easy that I take games I will never upload nor play. Mostly abandonware or Japanese games unavailable to the U.S. market, as I have purchased a good chunk of Wii downloads.
The 360 doesn't have this market; no, if you have paid to get your console chipped, just about the only useful thing in the 360 scene is stealing games instead of buying them.
