If I didn't already have $10.00 in credit on the Wii U eShop than I'd definitely be taking advantage of that deal.Solus_Emsu wrote:Just read a bit on this from a PSN newsletter:

So at first I thought this was awesome:

^but turns out it's lame. The "physical release" is just a box with a pin in it and download code for PSN.

Capcom sure loves their download codes.

someone had just posted the Joystiq review in this thread, then deleted their link? That review seemed like it was pretty damning and was written by someone who considers the original to be his all time favorite game. The review on Polygon is also very negative, and I tend to like their reviews (though this one seems less fair). I guess some outlets have liked it a good deal, also, including The Escapist. Things are REALLY all over the place, which is giving me pause on buying this (I had originally planned a day one purchase). I'm dying to know what some of y'all think once you get a shot at it.

Finally got my WiFi working on my PS3 again and saw that PS+ members get a small discount. Was going to jump on it, but thought it over and decided not to. I think I'm going to hold off for a while...

Reviews for this game are mixed so far. Banking on nostalgia or a solid platformer, or a bit of both?

Deleted it because I didn't fully read the review before posting.dsheinem wrote:someone had just posted the Joystiq review in this thread, then deleted their link? I thought that the Joystiq review was a strong review that focused on key similarities and differences to the NES version, focusing specifically on gameplay and level design. The other reviews that I've seen tend to look at the game more (though not totally) in isolation and judge it as they might a new platformer, for better or worse. Given the general trend of game reviews to skew score high (e.g. "a 7 is bad"

again, if this had gotten a $20/$30 physical release, I'd buy it and see for myself. I was a huge fan of the NES game (and in fact, it's one of the few NES games we own now). But now the various reviews will def decrease the chance of me paying for the download.
