Choppy audio on a modded psx

Post by Hatta »

I have an scph-1001 with a multimode 2.1 chip installed. After playing Einhander for about an hour, the audio started getting a bit choppy.

Is there anything I can do about this? Are scph-1001's picky about the media and how it's burned? Anything I can adjust on the unit itself?

What did you burn your game at? It's recommended that you burn the game at 8x, I burn mine at 4x. Also, does the console do this on real games too, or just burned ones?

Also, do you have any retail games you can test with to see if the problem persists? Most likely its the CD-R or burn process. Try a different brand of CD-R also. And like Hatta said, burn at slower speeds.

Just a couple things to try.

You should just be thankful that your 1001 still works. That's some kind of miracle.

My 2.0 SCPH 1002 still works!

It's probably the media was burned at too fast a rate causing choppy playback. Try burning at 8x or 4x and see if you get the same problem.

Hm, I tried burning it at 8x, but there's still choppiness. It's mostly ok during gameplay. The score screen after Game Over is pretty bad, and the intro movie is a little choppy. I don't think this burner will go any lower than 8x, I'll have to see if I have a burner that will go slower.

It won't go lower than 8x?! What software are you using?

My brand new £14 NEC Optiarc will go as slow as 4x...
