Dodge truck of some kind, like a late 90's/early 00's model.flex wood wrote:What was the car that hit him? I'm guessing it was a smaller vehicle.Forlorn Drifter wrote:My dad, on the other hand, got broadsided by a drunk person running a red light.
The '70 wasn't the same, no, we've had to sell it of course, but I honestly don't know if he would of survived in a newer truck. A broadside to the driver door hit, and he walked away with no injuries? That's enough to sway my opinion.

So the fact that the other vehicle was newer and had crumple zones helped a lot. If it had also been a 70s or older vehicle, it could have been messier.Forlorn Drifter wrote:Dodge truck of some kind, like a late 90's/early 00's model.
You can ignore the talking and just pay attention to the 01 vs 04 offset crash differences. Like that other year difference test, there would be a great difference with a 70s truck.
Here's a 2009 side impact test. Yes the truck isn't moving forward, but short of a curb or something catching the wheel, it is very unlikely to roll due to better (and unworn) suspension parts.

Well, I'm not going to argue with you, but I feel more comfortable with an older vehicle. Its like a safety blanket, it doesn't help in any way, but it make me feel better.
That, along with cost reasoning, less electronic on older engines, etc. lead to my preference. In all honesty, my safety isn't all that big of a deal for me. If I get into a crash or something, that's my fault, and oh well, I'll have to deal with the consequences.

Well it will certainly wrap tightly around you and keep you warm if you're in a bad accident.Forlorn Drifter wrote:Well, I'm not going to argue with you, but I feel more comfortable with an older vehicle. Its like a safety blanket, it doesn't help in any way, but it make me feel better.
Lower upfront cost for a vehicle that will need a lot of TLC and overhaul to be truly road worthy and/or will use at least double the gas. That, along with cost reasoning, less electronic on older engines, etc. lead to my preference.
Ah, the "fuck the family and loved ones' feelings" attitude. Awesome. In all honesty, my safety isn't all that big of a deal for me. If I get into a crash or something, that's my fault, and oh well, I'll have to deal with the consequences.

Re: What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?
My family prefers me in an older car, and actually pushes me towards one, excluding my mom.
And again, money man. My Ranchero cost me $1800 cash, and I had to put in a windshield and get a bit of carb work done. Right now, it the best running vehicle we own excluding my dad's truck, which runs like a top. And anything "new" is out of the question, seeing as my sister (by that, I mean my mother) bought a $26,000 truck, along with the fact my mom is looking at getting herself a new one. My mom, after now buying my sister 4 trucks, refuses to buy me a vehicle, and my Dad doesn't have the money to do it by any means, so I'd rather pay for the gas over time than worry about full blown car payments when I have a job. It also makes me more careful with my money. Should I really go hang out with my friends? Because I can't afford to...

Having car payments would be a good thing for your credit rating.

I don't have a job, for one, and having my parents pay off on another vehicle is just plain horrible.MrPopo wrote:Having car payments would be a good thing for your credit rating.
Plus, I don't see any reason to ever spend over $10,000 on a vehicle, and I pay in cash whenever possible.

If the payments aren't in your name then sure, no sense in doing it. But it's something to think about in the future if you want to get a house someday.Forlorn Drifter wrote:I don't have a job, for one, and having my parents pay off on another vehicle is just plain horrible.MrPopo wrote:Having car payments would be a good thing for your credit rating.

Even at 21 it sucks to be caught in the crossfire of two parents arguing over money. They have been tossing around the D word for around the past year and at this point I don't think I would give a shit. I am tired of the highs and lows of being a part of this mess that we call a family.
Wrote a short novel after this point to decompress but private matters are better left private. So it's gone buried as so many things are in the dark recesses of my mind.
In summation my life is @#$@#$ and has been @#$@#$ for quite a while.
