Debating if I should do it for Gran Turismo 5 CE.
Edit: The second poster asked me what materials you needed to make the casing. Sorry for the late reply. Here's a list:
1. You can you some kind of mylar/acetate film of a certain thickness you want. You don't want it too thick or too thin. You want something that is sturdy and easy to work with. I happen to use the ones I got from Office depot where they use the 8 by 11 sheets for presentations in overhead projectors.
2. a Sharpie to mark where you are going to fold or bend. You can easily clean them with some alcohol.
3. a straight edge. You can use it to measure and cut against it. a 12 inch metal ruler is good enough for this. I use a 24 myself.
4. a razor knife with good pair of scissor for occasional use.
5. double sided tape to assemble your pieces together.
6. your limited edition box. Tip: Make sure you don't tighten the sheets together against the box as this would make it hard for you slide the limited edition box out of the plastic case when you need to and possibly make it hard to take your games out.
I almost always leave one side completely open.

Re: I make plastic boxes for limited edition games
Very useful info here
I've gotten boxes off of ebay for my CIB Super Nintendo games, but never can find customized sizes for all the various limited edition games I have for various systems.

Another advice, don't try to be perfect with this. Just make it good enough. The whole purpose of this is simply to add a little protection for your investments.Gamerforlife wrote:Very useful info here

Very very slick! Using Overhead Projector Sheets is genius! I'll try this on some of my thicker Special Edition DVD movies, the ones with the outer cardboard liner. THANK YOU!JC48573 wrote:I happen to use the ones I got from Office depot where they use the 8 by 11 sheets for presentations in overhead projectors.

I posted a few more pictures. The Last Story can be a little tricky to do. You need to make sure you leave a little bit more space so that insert doesn't slide out completely. Let's say you want to save time and don't want keep taking the box out to get to the disc, the extra space you have between the box and the plastic case can be used to temporally insert your disc in between using a slim case or envelope.

This really is a great approach for game and movie preservation. I think the only thing I would change is make the seam at the side of the box.JC48573 wrote:I posted a few more pictures. You might also make a mention of using the Overhead Projector Transparency Sheets in the OP. Maybe take it as far as moving your step by step Guide at the top over to the OP, throw in a few images of the actual process of the cutting room?
You can even augment the Guide with Google Images. I wonder if the projector plastic roll might be more cost effective?

Re: I make plastic boxes for limited edition games
I do have one seam on the side, but more than often "I" end up having that extra seam (or more) in the middle mainly because I try to use one whole sheet first. If you don't want that seam in the middle, you need to really cut out one for the front and one for the back, so you end up with "two" seams on the side of the boxes only. I simply want to do it fast and I'm only doing it for the sake of protecting the boxes from wearing out. You can definitely make it prettier and as for the roll, I wouldn't recommend it because it's not really flat. I've seen those transparency sheets go for much less, but I think I bought it for around 40 dollars for 100 sheets, which isn't too bad I guess as I was using it for other things as well. As for the step by step, I really need to make some time for it as my procedures are somewhat experimental. The fun part about this is that you don't have to be a super genius to do this. Just play with it and you will probably discover your own way of doing it. I will consider your request though.CRTGAMER wrote:I think the only thing I would change is make the seam at the side of the box.JC48573 wrote:I posted a few more pictures. Edit: From my experience, I think it's much sturdier if you can at least wrap the transparency sheet around the box as much as possible .
