What was the last movie you've seen?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

The Drafthizzy is pretty great, but it's got two theaters in Austin that kinda beat it out. Flix Brewhouse, and The MovieHouse. Moviehouse has barcaloungers, food and beer, etc. Best of all, no one under 18 is admitted without parents. Period.

Most parents don't want to spend $12 to take their 4 year old to see Man of Steel, so there's rarely any kids there. It rocks.

Those theaters are considered landmarks. I've been to plenty "Mug and a Movie" theaters and while I was catering, I really wanted to purchase a theater near ECU's college campus and open my own.

Carmike still hasn't sold it. They'd rather have no competition over revenue.

It's a rather small two theater complex, but it is smack in the middle of the downtown area, and would be the only Dinner & a Movie spot. Tiered seating, movie inspired menus, affordable prices. Most college students can't afford a car/parking, and a guy could walk a date a few blocks and get drinks, dinner and a movie.

I think NC State may have something similar.

Everybody. Please go see Pacific Rim this weekend. You won't regret it. It's all sorts of badass.

Also watched Eraserhead and Joss Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing at the Michigan Theatre. 3 great movie trips overall. I'm very pleased.

Like Water.

It's a documentary about MMA fighter Anderson Silva. It was pretty good and seeing how nice of a guy he is "behind the scenes" made me sympathize with him over losing the UFC middleweight title recently.

Seconded. It's a love letter, a shout out, to all those who watched monster movies, love mecha and or even played any sort of game related to that. Freaking amazing, great movie. Plus, if Hideo Kojima himself endorses it, there's no excuse NOT to go out and see it. In 3D! Finally, listen closely to the voice of the Jaeger AI -- most of us should know who that is.

This is the only time having a kid* sucks...

*A 2yo that can't sit through a whole movie. I'm sure it will be awesome when she's older.

Despicable Me 2

I've said before that I think Illumination's first two films were better than Pixar's offerings in their respective years, so I was interested to see if they could top Pixar again, especially since I really really liked Monsters University. In my opinion, they did, if only just. While the first film was equally about Gru's character arc and the girls' character arc, this time around, it's all about Gru. It's starting to become an overused claim these days, but this is really more a film for adults with the slapstick and Minion-centric comedy relief just there to keep kids from getting bored with Gru's story. This is not a bad thing and in fact, they pull off a pretty good balance so the slapstick doesn't overwhelm the very character-based plot. Speaking purely in terms of story, I would say that MU and DM2 are equally good, but in terms of creativity, imagination and originality, DM2 is definitely the better of the two. Sorry, Pixar. Better luck next time.

Oh c'mon. You know DM2 was leaps and bounds better than MU in every aspect.

You're going to make Dish hate this before he even sees it.

edit* Wow. Just wow. GROWN UPS 2 grossed more than PACIFIC RIM over the weekend. People actually wanted to see a sequel to Grown Ups.
