I can't fathom playing Dark Souls on the 360 controller, lol.

Shuddering just thinking about it. I wouldn't be able to hold down the run button with my index on a 360 so I can change the camera while I'm running.

I'd echo this. I never buy guides but I did grab the Dark Souls guide and it proved to be extremely handy, much more so than having to browse forums and the wikia for answers. The stuff that comes in handy is item and NPC locations and just general information more so than strategies and data. It will still be very useful even though much of the number-related data is now inaccurate.

I do this all the time as well.

^ Thanks - I was a little disappointed when I heard all the stat-stuff had changed but still sounds like a valuable pickup.

The more I reflect upon this game the more I realize I actually really hate it.

I think I'll beat it again just to give it one more chance but this is probably the most overrated game I've probably ever played.

And it's kind of sad, too. I love games with fantasy settings. This should be one of my favorite games of all time...

I've played and beaten both Souls games (Dark Souls on 360 most recently) and, although I both hated and loved the experiences of each game, they aren't for everyone. They really aren't. The brutal difficulty, paper-thin story, almost non-existent music, and the grindy nature of the game is a combination that not everyone can enjoy. I personally hated each game as I was playing through it but after beating them (and stepping away from the controller) I could appreciate the games for what they are. Those games will both be burned into my memory for years to come, that's for sure. So yeah, be discouraged, be upset, hate the game...it's normal :P

These I agree with.

These I don't. I only had to farm souls only once my first playthrough. I guess I didn't even have to; I just wanted to up my stats to use a good bow.

... unless by "grindy nature" you mean how you have to constantly replay stages if you die, then I agree with you there.

The game really isn't all that hard. The only difficult part is getting over the initial learning curve. Once you realize that the developers have put traps and monsters around every single corner, you should be all right.

And despite my hatred of the game and some of its design choices I cannot help but feel that it was worth playing. Quite strange.

Did you try Dark Souls? I have a hard time thinking someone could only enjoy one or the other, but there are some different design philosophies between the two. Dark Souls to me feels a bit more like what Castlevania should have become this gen. There's no general main hub and it's not level based like Demon's was, instead it's just a huge complex interconnected world, backtracking, etc, like you'd see in Zelda, Metroidvania, etc.

Despite my love for the style, I still think I liked Demon's a bit more myself. Still need to beat Dark someday though.

I can agree if I have one complaint for the games though, music would have been nice. I don't think it feels off with the silence, seemingly fitting in its desolate depressing environments, but yeah.

Dark Souls should have been silent up until this ... kicks in right when you land in Anor Londo. CHILLS!!!!

I have Dark Souls. I'm probably a little over the halfway point but I've put it down for now. It shares some of the same issues as Demon's but is a better game I think.

Wait until you fight the final boss of Dark Souls - I was a straight melee character, no magic at all, and must have died fifty times fighting that bastard. I almost broke my 360 controller on several occasions.
