It's funny, because I actually didn't care so much about not using composite on my Super NES at first. It seemed to look pretty nice. Then I played Earthbound. The text in that game is very thin, only a single pixel wide if I recall correctly. This causes serious rainbow effects when using composite. It annoyed me, so I tried s-video, and the text became crystal clear.
Another funny thing I remember is playing my SNES via composite through my Apple IIc monitor. The monitor was 14" and tiny, but I swore it looked great. I used to watch my laserdiscs with it sometimes, since it had higher resolution than my TV. In some LD movies, I could tell the resolution was higher than my TV, so I would watch them on the monitor. I suspect it was all in my mind at the time. I doubt it was any better in reality.
