Re: A General Commentary on Collecting Sega
I find Dreamcast stuff all the time. Nearly as often as I do Genesis stuff. Maybe it was just more popular on the West Coast.
Master System stuff I can find too, but not nearly as plentiful as Genesis and Dreamcast. But it's still pretty accessible.
Sega CD and Saturn I come across on occasion, but it's a lot less often.
Sega 32X I seem to able to find Doom everywhere, and that's about it.

Re: A General Commentary on Collecting Sega
In the greater Boston area, Genesis system and games in my experience are far more prevalent than any other system. Only place I've seen stuff for non-Genesis systems has been at flea markets. I've also noticed that Genesis stuff tends to linger at yard sales, thrift stores, etc. It doesn't sell instantly like Nintendo stuff does.

i'm going to try and go hunting this weekend, and post pics of every instance of sega finds around here. what i find might surprise you guys.

Re: A General Commentary on Collecting Sega
Genesis games i run into occasionally out in the wild sorta speak. Dreamcast and Saturn fuggehta about it. On the rare occasion i will see a single Saturn game or DC game in the flea markets. Its like Rodney Dangerfield no respect. Now i dont know about fancy trade shows im just speaking run of the mill flea market gatherings. However on the internet DC games are available and mostly cheap at that. Someone posted a question on sealed DC games i did a search on fleabay and most can be had for under $30 sealed. I cant comment on SMS as i havent got into that much. Maybe one day i will. Accesories for the DC joysticks memory cards are dirt cheap.
Curtsy when you walk by that Dreamcast

Re: A General Commentary on Collecting Sega
Genesis Carts are plentiful here, and if you look hard you can find Genesis games complete in box.
I NEVER find Saturn, Sega CD, or 32X in the wild. I ONCE found a few SMS carts in the wild (with no console or power base converter). I ONCE found a Dreamcast with games in the wild.
Even at my local retro game store, there's only a handful of SMS carts, Sega CD games, Saturn games, and Dreamcast games. None of them are desirable finds.
I can definitely empathize with OP.

Re: A General Commentary on Collecting Sega
when you guys say "in the wild," do you include resale shops (Buy/Sell/Trade) or are you strictly talking flea markets/thrift stores/yard sales?

I have the same for issues down here in west Texas. I found a CIB vectorman at an ezpawn the other day, but I didn't have the scratch. 10 bucks seemed like too much myself. All I want is dreamcast stuff.

I rarely find anything in the wild. I think it depends on your area and how big of a market it can support.

Re: A General Commentary on Collecting Sega
dont give up and try harder.
If you're in a fleamarket, look around wherever they have audio cassettes. They are shaped similarly and sometimes you can find cart only games mixed in with cassettes.
Look in the bottom of random boxes too. Check out VHS tapes as well. Boxed Genesis games are sometimes mixed in with Tapes.
If you have time to look, go through the stacks of CD's as well. Sega CD/saturn and even 3DO games disc only are mixed in with the music.
Many times wherever theres genesis games there may be master system games there as well.
Cases often broke and people would put them in generic cases. When you are in college or on a long trip, you cant take such huge game cases.
Check random binders too. Resellers often put game discs in binders. They find the broken Sega CD case (often missing the manual) and throw away the rest, putting the CD in the binder.
Once you do find games, dont hesitate to open any genesis/Master system cases too. Sometimes theres nothing inside, other times theres a different game inside.
Finally check that they arent damaged. I've come across games that look like they got wet once a long time ago and then dried out. Some contacts have gone green and damaged.
keep searching, you'll find good stuff.
