Finally got around to this. I've unscrewed everything including the security screw and I know what capacitors to buy for everything, now I can't get the damned thing open. What do I do exactly? As you can see I beat the hell out of it with a flat head screw driver for a couple minutes before giving up.

Did you remove the screws in the battery compartments? There are 6 screws plus the security screw total. It just comes right open.

Missed the ones in the battery compartments as you said. Too hasty. At least cosmetically it's dinged up in an inconspicuous place.

VA1 models are indeed pretty common, so chances are, you have what you need there. Just make sure the capacitance rating (micro farad) is the same as the one you replace each cap with (and = or greater voltage).

For anyone that might still be interested I've replaced all the capacitors but the real pain in the ass one next to a transformer or something (long one in the top left corner if u open up your GG from the bottom facing up). It still does the same thing: powers on for a split second then off. Maybe I don't have good connections or something. I hope that's all it is at least. I was very careful to not rip off the pads under the legs of the old capacitors and had a great tutorial running the whole time. I admit this is like the second or third time ive soldered so it was a but of a shoddy job. Oh well back at it.

Yeah, I used to have issues with that one too (and still do sometimes ).
Of course, half the time I'm ripping out the transformer anyways (replacing the light with LEDs).

Remember to double/triple/quadruple-check that all of your caps are in the right way. It's a common mistake to mix up the polarity on 1 or 2 caps and not notice until you are at your wits end trying to figure out why it doesn't work.

Also, soldering takes practice. I used a hopelessly trashed one for my 1st attempt.
