The BUY DE BLOB thread

Seriously, this game is already being overlooked by many and it's one of the most pleasant surprises I've experienced in gaming for quite a while, I love it to pieces. It feels totally fresh in style and in substance, and also feels like the staff who developed it had an absolute blast developing it, something I rarely find in games anymore.

I'm not going to explain it as I'd be here all night so watch this video review. It sums it up pretty darn good and convinced me to try the game out. I had been watching this progress of this game overtime but wasn't overly hyped about it, but it blew me away, it really is one of the most slickly produced, lovingly crafted games I have played in years.

If you had to compare it to other games, it's a sort of blend of Katamari and Jet Set Radio. It's a puzzle platformer score attack game that is also has tons of stuff to do and unlock, with levels that can take you around 30 minutes at a time. My main problem with this game is that there are no saves points in a level, so you have to dedicate the time to playing a level or you have to restart from scratch. It is insanely additive after a while, especially if you're one of those people that has to complete everything.

The cut scenes are also bloody brilliant. I'm not sure if these were animated in-house or they got a studio to do the work (like Sega does with all those great FMV's their games have now), but if it was to be of a simular quality to what's here I'd love to see this become a cartoon, which isn't impossible as THQ has connections with Nickelodeon who have already turned one of their game franchises into a TV series with Tak (which has no where near the charm this game has). There's still a lot of potential in the game concept so I'd love to see a sequel, too. To think this started out as a student project that THQ bought the rights to. To think this is even coming from THQ, who are not exactly known for breaking the mold or even doing anything that is not licensed.

The game is currently £18 on play.com, and it's worth every penny. I'd hate to see people complaining in the future that this game went overlooked.

Wow I didn't think that IGN's selective biased rubbed (Nitrobike, Red Steel, Medal of Honour, The Conduit) off on people, looks like I was wrong.

In all seriousness, I agree, this game is pretty apt and it's Australian made too, so of course I am going to recommend that anyone spends money on it. I like the concept a lot but all of this fluff about tiring of the simplicity appears to be true, at least of what I played of the title. Still worth a shot, this game feels very niche and fresh so I think it'll appear to alot of the people here.

The game is getting good reviews all over the place, not just at IGN. Have a look see: http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/wii/deblob
While it's getting critical success (even Edge gave it a 8, and they're stingy with their scores), it seems to be already getting ignored by gamers. People that complain that there's not much original games out there anymore need to try this out. If THQ are smart they'll market the hell out of this.

I plan on buying it, but not until the inevitable price drop due to poor sales.

I'm just not feeling it. It looks really boring... bounce around and paint stuff, woohoo! What's the point?

I got this for iPhone a while back. For some reason it's immensely entertaining. One of the best games for the platform IMO. So I'm intrigued to see how much it's improved for the Wii. It will be a shame if it's the same game. (The iPhone has motion control as well, so i'm not even sure if the control scheme would be any different)

Jumping on turtles and collecting mushrooms! Woohoo! What's the point?
Flying through rings as a jester! Woohoo! What's the point?
Kicking a ball about until you eventually kick it into a net! Woohoo! What's the point?

Oh, and I'm not sure about in the US, but here in the UK the game has been offered up for under £20 a lot of places, even from day one.
