Best advice I've ever heard: Eat more fats and protein with every meal. Everyone thinks fat is bad, but that's actually not true. Fat doesn't make you fat. It's one of the best sources of energy, and you NEED it. Just try to eat mostly fat and protein while staying away (as much as possible) from sugar and breads (which turn to sugar). I know that's easier said than done, but at least cut out sugars a lot if not entirely.
I fucking LOVE milk, and I use to drink a TON of it. But like anything, even things that are good for you, too much turns out to be no good. I've been limiting my milk intake for the past two or so years now. But after going with organic milk, I'm never going back. Tasting organic milk really makes you realize how amazingly disgusting conventional milk is. After drinking only organic milk for so long now, conventional milk smells gross to me. Sick cows with hormones and antibiotics, no thanks.
And also what I was saying about fats, I've always found skim milk to be gross anyway, but I was just reading about how whole milk is better.
Milk, in its natural state, has a layer of cream which contains the saturated fat. When processing skim milk, the cream is taken out and then replaced with synthetic vitamins, minerals, and milk solids. The synthetic vitamins and minerals offer very little health benefit while the milk solids cause more harm then good. Milk solids are processed by squeezing milk through a machine with small holes at very high temperatures. This process causes natural, healthy cholesterol to become oxidized. Oxidized cholesterol irritates blood vessels and can cause plaque build up in your arteries which will eventually lead to heart disease
So if all that is true, whole milk is by far better for you than any reduced fat milk. I know that fat isn't bad for you, but if all that is true about the processing, it's just more of a reason to drink only whole milk, and organic. Personally, I prefer 1 or 2%.
What I usually eat in the morning at work is a buttered roll and an Odwalla protein drink. The roll is the worst part since it'll turn to sugar, but the butter has fat and the protein shake has protein and other nutrients. It took me a while to notice, even after being told fats and protein are the most important, but that little bit of food keeps me hungry much longer than if I just eat some other junk without the protein drink. For example, I had that this morning around 10am and it's about 4pm and I'm only beginning to become hungry.
One of my other favorite protein sources, and some fat too I think, is peanut butter. I love to smear a ton of it on toast. I've had that for dinner and it's kept me full. Of course, steak is preferred.
