Stick with the only classics... Vectrex, Amiga, Pippen, Jaguar, and Virtual Boy... preferably with CD add on where applicable.

Ive owned about every successful system since NES. I kept all my stuff but sadly I lost just about everything in a major flood 3 years back. Games,Systems and accessories all gone. It was pretty sad but I took it on the chin. I wasn't playing the stuff but I was keeping it because they were all mine and I was the original owner.

From your description, you sound like more of a collector. Nothing wrong with that though I prefer playing the games; some people collect items such as stamps and such. However, as a previous owner you should already have insight on the various consoles.

THIS. Everyone has their favorites, here is my same advice to the question in the OP. If you are shopping this time around to get into playing the games, focus the research on not the hardware, but the games. Every console has great exclusive games, see which one you might like.

I'll echo the PS2 sentiment. PS1+PS2 library is ginormous, and quite a lot of it is still very reasonably priced.

Before buying too much, I'd explore options for compilations and the like as well. Even if you don't want to go all digital (legal or not), if what you want to play is largely available via compilation discs or something it could be far more convenient (and much cheaper).

Yeah, I kind of have an idea as the Direction I will probably go. The Ultimate goal is to have a home arcade eventually to chill and display my stuff. Your input is very helpful however.

On a side note Ive been eyeing up the Retron5. Never had a mock system before and the idea of getting my hands on Famicon games is neat. Having one of them really counts out the need for others but Id probably just use it as the "workhorse" while I refurb the originals.

Also, Id like to have a system for emulation instead of going through the PC. My Dreamcast had 2 emulated disks. I heard you can do this on Saturn too.

can anyone advise if there is a system preferable for ROM Disks?

Surprised at the lack of N64 admirers.

I'm actually rather fond of it, but there's simply not a whole lot there, and it's severely deficient in certain genres.

Yeah Im a total sucker for compilation disks already. I play new games too but not as much and Ive been faithful to Xbox (though not a fan boy) since it came out. But all this makes me want the original, so I probably am a collector in denial HA!

I'd recommend the following for gaming goodness:

At Home
NES
SNES
Sega CDX
N64 (particularly in one of the fun colors) with a 64 Drive cart
Gamecube with a Game Boy Player

On the Road
GBA SP (backlit model)
Nintendo DS Lite or a 3DS XL

That gives you 5 consoles and 2 handhelds and a plethora of great games. On top of that you could add a PS2 as some have suggested and call it a day.

SegaCDX looks bad ass honestly but i read the 32x compatibility is problematic. . .who knows. I can't see myself actually going ape on SegaCD/32x as far as playing it, but I like the asthetics of the total package.

I like Genesis 1 with the CD underneath for design. But the 32x looks best on Genesis/CD 2 because of the design. This is where you suffer for fashion I suppose. Again if Im going for the "Retro" thing I gotta go with the Genesis 1. Also I remember the SegaCD1 front loader to be an issue.


Ive never been big on Handhelds since GB1 but I do own a PS Vita. As Far as all the Gameboy Consoles go, the Retron5 has capabilities for the Major Gameboy Models, so that would sway me to grab a few gameboy carts.
