I think I'm going into a mid life crisis!!! UPDATE!!!

Post by mas »

JUST MADE AND UPDATE AND THANK YOU!!!!!
Hi everyone,
I'm a 37 year old man happily married, two kids, o.k. job that everyone loves me. I have a great family and a wonderful life. Lately though I have been wanting change and I am bored and have been quiet and thinking a lot of what I want in life.
As of late my video game life sucks. I'm tired of it. I only play with games for ten minutes or so and then I get bored and shut it off. As of now I own a psp+120 games/movies, Ps2 with 70+ games, Nes+ 160 games, dreamcast 100 plus games and a master system with 30 or so games.
Now every system i own has all the must haves, fighting or 2d/3d fighting/arcade/shmups/ action type or arcade racing type games. I haven't touched most of them in months to a year. The thrill of buying games or going to a flea markets are gone. I have boxed them up for a few month's and I just go nah.
I see my collection and I see money that I want to invest. I also am done with the gym and everyday things that I used to enjoy like playing video games and lifting or wrestling and watch some shows on tv etc.
Now I don't know if this is just a phase but I don't care for that stuff anymore. I want more stuff in life like a new car or a house or a bike. I want to travel with my family and do other things instead of buying games.
I looked back and most of the money I spent on my collections in the last 2 years I could of gotten a down payment on a house.
I wonder if and I'm sure a lot of people feel like I do at one point in their life. I just don't know where to go with this or what I should do. My wife says if games don't make you happy then sell it off and find a new hobby. She doesn't care as long as im happy. But lately im not.
I don't want to hear that quote saying you will regret it because in the last month I really think I wont anymore. I will give it some more thought but I think after vacation at the end of july I may just want to start my life over and give everything up. Thank you guys so much for all the feedback you always gave me even though my forums were always the same like thinking of getting a new system or should I sell a system or what's better this or that.
Because of racketboy I did learn not to sell my stuff anymore and learned to love the dreamcast and Saturn and other sega systems. If anyone want to reply then cool but I won't be on too much more. Maybe for the next couple of days or so but that's about it. I just want to have some time and think about what I really want in life. Thank you again.

I hope you make the right decision for you and find that happiness that you've been missing lately. Maybe you'll find that passion for gaming again someday.

For a few years before I joined this forum and started on retro games I had mostly given up on video games. I would still buy games but rarely enjoy them and pretty much never finish them. While I have mainly been playing current gen games over the past year, Racketboy, collecting, and retro games definitely helped me find that passion for video games again. Now I play them just about as much as I did when I was a kid, haha. Or as close as that as I can get while having a full time job. Thankfully my collecting habits have settled down as well. Saves me a lot of money while still enjoying the things I love. :)

I've always said if I sell my collection it would be to do something worthwhile/memorable (e.g. a long trip around the world), so I think you should go for it. A down payment on a house or a cross country voyage with the fam sounds like a much better way to invest in your future/relationships, and you sound like you'd be glad to do it.

If you feel like playing again, you can always reget select stuff, emulate, etc.

I would say this. +1

You can always just pack away maybe one system and a few games and cash out on the rest. I have always said ''less is more'' and it really is. If I walk in to a room with 500 games I would never know what to play, but if I walk into a room with 10 games I will pick and play one.

As much as I fool around on this forum, I'm always glad when a "I think I'm done with gaming" member leaves.

Probably 80% of my posts are non-gaming related, but even I can't stand "I don't know about gaming anymore" wish-wash posts, and the "Talk me back into gaming" posts are the worst.

So are you going to come back in a month asking which console you should get, a ps2, vectrex, or gameboy advance? and then ask us to compare the 3?

You're too young to be in a midlife crisis.
