They are incredible creatures, aren't they? I tend to prefer a bright green Chinese Mantis, as those are the ones I see in the wild the most.

Smile: BBQ went swimmingly last night. Let some picnic ribs mellow out in a brine consisting of water, salt, sugar, and fresh ginger for several hours. After that, gave them a quick water bath, grilled them for about fifteen minutes and finished those honkers off with a slathering of a homemade Chinese bbq sauce (it was supposed to be a Korean bbq, but who really cares?) made with a tornado of Koon Chun Hoisin Sauce, a dab of Soy sauce, minced garlic and ginger, red pepper flakes, and a poof of five spice powder. Served 'em with sushi grade rice and crisply cooked broccoli feathered with sesame seeds.

Cajun Burgers tonight. They're one of the only burgers that I'll accept having ketchup on. A spice mix (holla for a dolla if you'd like the recipe), coarsely chopped onion, beef, Tabasco, and that's about all it takes. I'm a burger purist, but these guys taste pretty tasty, and it doesn't hurt to pull the ol' switcharoo once in a while.

Frown: Looks like it will be raining non stop during my visit to the Mountains and Bison Ranch. The Bison ranch also charges an absurd amount of money for steaks and even ground Bison. I was also hoping they had Bison jerky, but nope. Ten hour round trip drive to the mountains, plus another four hour round trip drive to see animals I probably won't eat.

I used to stare at my national geographic books for hours and setting up cool tanks "just in case" my grandmother ever changed her mind. I went out and got a few walking sticks, but never found a mantis. Even if I did she would never had let me keep it inside. Yesterday, I spent a couple hours watching YouTube videos on various species (some I had never seen before). I felt a rush of pure happiness when thinking that I could finally get one. I think I'm going to start out with a Ghost Mantis, but eventually get a Chinese and Orchid as well.

:D First day back at work went by pretty fast.

:? Looks like I may not be staying here much longer with the way things are going. I'm pretty safe up until my contract is done, but past that... who knows. Not too worried though.

:( Man, I'm really missing my folks already. With how anti-social I am, I didn't think I would get this lonely.

They are fairly common around here, and once in a while you'll find a monster mantis. Maybe not as long as you forearm, but pretty close. Heads the size of a silver dollar.

Cause for Celebration: Kroger Co. purchased Harris Teeter. As a major stock holder in Alex Lee, this is HUGE and GREAT news for my longtime financial plans. I knew Alex Lee wasn't going to bid, but I thought for sure Publix was going to take over, which would mean serious bad news for my wallet. This is pop the champagne news for me, and I doubt a smile will leave my face today.

:( I know how you feel...we took our daughter to the SC zoo not too long ago, and I was very disappointed that we did not come home with at least a koala steak...

I had severe dehydration once. It sucked, I had to live off of eating ice for a few days because I couldn't digest solid foods.

...come to think of it, that might be why I eat ice so much nowadays.

As goofy as it sounds, I think the ice at the end of a fountain drink is something to look forward to. I friggin' love it! I finish my soda, and then crunch on the ice.

Its awesome.
