What if you're not planning to sleep until the afternoon?
Make a new thread
And thus, I did.

Staying up late? Psh. Waking up early? Psh!

This is for those of us who don't actually go to sleep until the next day, the ones that are up all night long, all the time because they work graveyard or something.

I typically go to sleep around 1-2pm and wake up around 9-10pm. There's a few other people here who have similar schedules, right?

Blacking out a lot of the windows helps. It sucked a lot the first week or so I did it, but I've gone 4 years now doing it so I'm used to it now.

For the last 4-5 years or so I've usually gone to bed/managed to fall asleep between 4 and 5 am, though some days it's not untill 7½-12 am that I go to bed/fall asleep. I don't work graveyard shift though. Do I qualify?

I remember on some days 6 years ago I went to bed at 3-4 am and woke up to school at 7 am. I don't know how I managed to do that, but World of Warcraft motivates you to push your boundaries I guess. That's also how my night owl lifestyle got started :)

Anyway what has sleeping have to do with general gaming?

Idunno, the Late Night Crew and Early Morning Crew are both in general gaming so I stuck this here too.

I used to be a big time night owl, up late (3-4 am) mostly every night. Becoming a full time student changed that drastically though, and even helped curb some issues I used to have with sleeping. Now between going to class, studying, and other obligations, I usually try to get to bed early if I can, and make an effort to not stay up much past 11 so I can get up as early as I can without being tired.

So, I guess I don't really belong here.

Graveyard shift here, 0000-0800. And Racketboy is one of the few forums I can get onto through the work internet blocks. Interestingly enough, I can't come directly here, but if I google for Racketboy Forum I can click the link.

So yeah... assuming I'm not working overtime or otherwise bumbling with my shift (training, swapping shifts with other people, etc), I get out at 0800, usually go see my mother for a bit after work, am home by 0900 or so, in bed by 0930-1000... sleep until I wake up, typically in the 1700-1800 range... hang out with friends most nights, leave for work around 2315 and start work around 2345. (We're required to be there 5 minutes before our shift starts, but the majority of people are closer to 15 in a Pay-It-Forward sorta way)

Don'tcha hate how often a lot of people don't really 'get it' that you need to sleep during the day?

The good news is, for me, most people have figured it out by now. My parents typically email me (which goes to my phone, but no tone or vibrate or anything)... my friends all know not to expect me to be conscious before at least 1800, sometimes later... the neighbors all know I usually work overnights so try to watch out.

Biggest problem for me comes when I start working, say, 0000-1600 and have to be back at 0000 the next day. Then I'm suddenly sleeping in the evening when I'm normally awake, THEN people get screwed up.

I have been working since 8:30 AM today. I am still working right now, and I will be back in the office at 8:30 AM tomorrow...so...basically...I am a member of the early morning crew, the late night crew, and the night owl crew. I can't say that I am too happy about my current memberships, however... :(
