Video game tournaments (including plenty of retro) in TN

Post by TheScore »

First time poster, long time lurker on Racketboy. I actually am a collector of old NES and SNES stuff, and have a lot of old games, which is how I first heard of this site.

I am opening a business in Cool Springs (very fast growing suburb of Nashville, TN) called "The Score of Cool Springs." This business is a retail location featuring video games and video game tournaments around the clock.

Our website is up, although we only have a few days worth of tournaments listed (and the whole calendar part of our site will be getting revamped in the next week or so prior to launch). The site is The Score Online.

In "The Arena," a massive space designed just for big video game tournaments, we'll have big blockbuster titles like a Halo, COD, Rock Band, Madden, etc. But we're also going to have all sorts of retro tourneys. Our "Beat The Clock" series features speed-run tournaments, with the first ones we'll feature being Braid, Super Mario Bros. 1 and 3, Super Mario 64, and Mass Effect. We'll also have regular GoldenEye tournaments (N64) and Tecmo Bowl (NES) tournaments...and will be adding many more as we go along.

In addition to having tournaments "around the clock" like movies, we will also have corporate events, parties, and remote events...and will also sell a limited quantity of new games too.

I invite you (whether you're in Nashville, or driving distance, or not) to check out our website, but even more importantly, to join us on Facebook. If you search for "The Score of Cool Springs," you should be able to find our business facebook page, where we'd ask you to "become a fan." This will help us a ton, and will get you the occasional email with tournament announcements, game news, and that type of thing as well.

Thanks and now I will likely return to lurker status, unless of course somebody has a question about the business. Thanks so much in advance for checking out our site and joining us on Facebook, if you're on there.

Oh, I forgot one of our bigger "Beat The Clock" opening retro tournaments...MEGA MAN 9 (Wii version).

That game is ridiculously good and, as a long time retro gamer, makes me happy Capcom is taking mainstream gaming in that direction.

OK, now I'm done. Sorry for the extra post.

Dude, I live in Hermitage! How rad!!

I'm a bit confused by one thing, though: are retro games going to be sold at this establishment, or just played in tournaments, while only newer games are sold in limited quantities?

If you are planning on selling retro games, or will expand to do so, you'll definitely attract me and my good friend Harold (yes, Harold). It's really hard to find retro games around here: you've got GameTrader (horrendously overpriced) and you've got The Great Escape (hit-or-miss, being that it's a second-hand store), and that's about it.

Regardless, I'm definitely planning to check this out when it opens, but you'd REALLY get business if you actually sell retro games at affordable prices. Especially if you stock Sega. Lots and lots of Sega. Then I'll pretty much be shoving currency into your cash registers left and right.

Cool, thanks for your reply!! You'll have to pay us a visit when we open.

We will certainly feature retro games in tournaments, first and foremost. We won't have tremendous space for our retail component, but what we're currently planning on doing is twofold:

1) We will be selling on a regular basis the Retro Duo game system. I personally believe this is one of the best retro products out there on the market, and therefore we'll be carrying it. (You know, that thing that plays both NES and SNES carts.)

2) We will also have a Retro Game(s) of the Month for sale, on systems that will vary from month to month. For December, the first month we'll be doing this, our Retro Game of the Month will likely be a mint copy of Starfox Super Weekend (SNES). We may toss something else in there as well. Not sure what the price will be yet, but it will be in line with market value.
