How are red rings of death not a bigger issue for microsoft?

Post by Mega-Dan »

How is it that xbox 360 is still outselling ps3 when its pretty much a sure bet your system will fail? I don't own a PS3, but I am on my second Xbox 360, and it failed. I saw a poll on xbox-scene.org (not a unbiased source)where only 31% of people who anwered said they had not had a xbox 360 that failed. Thats two systems that have a failed. If you buy a xbox 360 and use it, it will fail. The only thing that comes close to this level of awful quality is the original playstation (remember having to turn it upside down and having massive skipping issues?) or the original nintedo (blowing cartridges and taking em out, putting em back in). Is it that people dont know about the red rings of death or that they dont care?

I'm pretty sure it's that they don't care. Microsoft has a decent enough service program that a RRoD is just an inconvenience, and they feel that the 360 has better exclusives, or something.

Mine red ringed not to long ago and it sucked. Thank goodness I had the extended warranty and upgraded to a Elite. But I know its only a matter of time before it happens again. I'm thinking about buying a few new ones in the future when they get cheaper and storing them because I know in about 10 to 15 years I will have the only working ones left!

@corn619 - you didn't buy an extended warranty did you? If you're talking about Microsoft's three year RROD warranty, everyone still has that - 360 hasn't been out three years.

the ones who haven't had them don't care
the ones who took their plight to Microsoft have new 360 and feel greatly inconvenienced
the ones who didn't take them back to Microsoft possibly voided the warranty or didn't care enough

In 10 years, how many functional xbox 360s will there be? They are already failing. I still have a n64, ps1 (not great but working okay) dreamcast, and a saturn which are still around, (Saturns 14 years old now). There is no way I can imagine a xbox 360 going to 14 years old. Im just shocked people are willing to buy something with such a failure rate...we really are dumbasses in America. I mean, why would you buy ANOTHER xbox 360 because your xbox is failing....thats rewarding failure..you should contact a class action attorney.

You're forgetting about the most analogous example: PS2's and the dreaded Disc Read Error. Just like Sony eventually fixed the problem, Microsoft has in fact fixed the problem. It's just that you have to buy the right 360. I'm pretty sure we will be seeing a class action lawsuit, the same way Sony saw one over the PS2.
I have a ton of games listed at my store's site: Super Smash Video Games

I bought the 360 before the r.ring problem was covered by M.$oft and got the store extended warranty. So instead of waiting for a month for a refurbished 360, I traded my 20g r.ringed 360 and picked up and took it home that day a brand new elite for I think it was $70.00 or $80.00. I think it was worth it not having to deal with M.$oft directly.

I'm on my third one.. But.. by my second one I decided to pony up and get the replacement plan from Best Buy so when my second one died I just did a in-store swap. I actually got my first one up and working again with the metal screws & nylon washer fix. Its been working strong for 2 months now. RRoD sucks but the fact that the 360 is hackable gets more of my attention than my PS3. I can try games out with the need of only media and a Internet connection and not have to have a blockbuster/gamefly account. But I'm sure thats another topic all together.
