The thing is this, I'm getting the 3DS with store credit. It is new/sealed, but no XL in stock. So it's either standard 3DS or no 3DS for me.

I really like Castlevania Mirror of Fate. It's like NES era Castlevania with a little Metroidvania and some God of War mixed in

I must recommend my favorite DS game, Dragon Quest IX. If you're a fan of the series at all then you'll love it, especially if you can get other people to play with you.

Hmmm, I see consensus is for the XL over the original 3DS. I politely disagree for my preferences, when i do play, I use the original, I like the feel better and the "small screens" are still bigger than the DSlite. Not sure about build quality, dsh. Are you referring to the actual build? I think the 3DS feels sturdier and more compact than the XL, the top "lid" feels thicker as well. That said, I have all of them in nerf armor. My kids have one of each and really they don't differentiate when they go to play, it's literally whatever is closer.

Those who prefer the XL, aside from I assume liking a bigger screen - what is it that you prefer?

As for games - I thought Contra 4 was hard - frustratingly so.

I agree, Dreamdrop Distance is excellent - stunningly gorgeous at times and not as much text as some other entries, which is a must for me.

SSFIV is really good too - but the "auto combo" system is def. for kids and mashers, makes the game pretty easy - a cool thing, but best to not use it.

I know you and K dig some puzzle games - we only have one so far, it's Cradle of Rome 2 - and it is very good if you like the series.

It has better stylus placement, feels more comfortable to hold, doesn't feel as cheap and plastic-y as the original model, and the d-pad/face buttons are vastly improved.
