Yup, I finally decided to get a "current gen" portable. And oddly, 3DS it is since there's just a lot of quirky cool stuff already on that system. So you guys that know my taste, what 3DS (and DS) games do you recommend I think about?

Code of Princess is a fun beat 'em up/JRPG.

Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan is one of the best dungeon crawlers I've ever played. But you may wanna try the earlier games first (on DS).

Fire Emblem: Awakening has gotten tons of praise for good reason - probably the best portable SRPG ever.

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy is a fun little rhythm game based on the Final Fantasy series.

Tales of The Abyss is one of the better Tales games, but I'd only recommend getting it on 3DS if you don't have it on PS2.

As far as platformers go, you can't go wrong with Super Mario 3D Land.

And of course there are the 100 million great DS games to try. You like run & guns? You need Contra 4 and Metal Slug 7.

And since you're on a Final Fantasy kick, check out part III - the DS port is the only one to ever reach the US.

Nah, just a regular 3DS. The XL is nice, sure. But the price of the 3DS is already a bit higher than I'd like to pay for a portable as it is.

Don't waste money on the original 3DS unless the upgrade to XL is out of your price range.

Don't buy digital retail games until Nintendo gets their act together and makes an account system.

Get screen protectors for both screens.

I believe Code of Princess was made by the same folks who did Guardian Heroes. Yes, it is very similar.

And yup - Contra 4 is by WayForward.

I just remembered, Aliens: Infestation, also by WayForward is pretty solid too.

Hori screen protectors are fantastic and will cover both screens. You might be interested in Project X Zone. It's a quirky strategy rpg fan service game with tons of Namco, Sega and Capcom characters. I think you know about it already

I can see you digging Liberation Maiden if you like mech games. Suda worked on it

I don't think Super Mario 3D Land is all that amazing. It's certainly good, but I don't know why people rave about it. It's just another Mario game, nothing really special or innovative about it. It's bargain bin fare to me, better titles to get excited about IMO

I really like Castlevania Mirror of Fate. It's like NES era Castlevania with a little Metroidvania and some God of War mixed in
