Bullshit. I was 16 when I played Pokémon Red (a year or so after it came out) and I LOVED it. I wasn't afraid to say so, either. If you were, I feel sorry for you.BurningDoom wrote:I've never been a Pokemon fan. I was already in high school by the time that craze hit, so I was a little too old for it.

Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
Ive never played a Pokemon game. I heard they are RPGs so I can't really comment on their gameplay, but if the story's good, I guess it's ok. As far as the FAD is concerned, Ive never been into pokemon either. I don't remember when it came out in force, but I'm gonna be 36 next month so, that might tell you how old I was when it came out.
I remember hearing about Dragonball and Dragonball Z in about 10th grade, (1993) from some Korean kids that were coming to my school. I never paid much attention to it, and then I remember working at Walmart (about 19 years old) and a teacher coming in and asking me if I knew anything about "Goku." I thought "does she mean Gouki? Like.. Akuma from street fighter?" I guess she was looking for posters or whatnot for her classroom.
I didn't pay attention to DBZ until 1999 when I moved to austin and was staying with a friend before I got an apartment. I remember coming home and watching it on Cartoon Network at like 10PM. It was awesome! that first Vegeta/Goku fight is still my favorite.

Imposible! Every living thing on this world loves pokemon! Those who don't like it are just afraid of gettin out of the pokeball or are trying to look cool...BurningDoom wrote: I simply don't like Pokemon.

i was 11 when pokemon came out and it was the sole reason i bought a game boy color. It was HUGE when i was growing up and everyone played it. i remember having poke battles at recess even lol. That being said i tried to play pokemon blue again last year and i couldn't play much past the first gym. Nostalgia wasn't enough to hold those tittles up for me.

Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
I'm not much of a Pokemon fan anymore, but I was really into the first string of games for sure. The series lost its magic for me after Gold and Silver. I would consider the original "trilogy" to be my favorite.
As for age, I wouldn't say that has anything to do with it. They are simply fun RPGs. If it's the cartoon we're talking about then yeah, but I would say the game series itself is just as timeless as any other classic RPG.

Which reminds me, I really need to get Pokémon Black 2. I really dug the first one and it'll be awhile before I get X/Y considering I don't have a 3DS yet.

This is Retrodude, he has to attribute some sort of ulterior motive to you (in this case, fear) if you disagree with him.BurningDoom wrote:Are you for real? Afraid to admit it? Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
No hating on the Pokemon now. I played Pokemon Stadium and decided it was a good idea to get Pokemon Yellow. When I was at Toys R Us to get it, I played Crazy Taxi 2 on the demo Dreamcast unit and saw the price for it ($59.99), I knew I had to get that by the end of the year. This was September 10, 2001. The rest is history (I did get the DC in November)
About a month later, I had beaten Yellow and got a GBC combo package that included Pokemon Crystal (at $89.99) just so I could play that. What other game at the time had events happen on certain days of the week?
I also collected Pokemon stuffed toys, stickers, the cards for the Magic-style game, watched the series and the first movie -- yeah I was well into it for a few years
Not at any time did I feel weird (at 23/24) to play or be a fan of it.

I never got into Pokemon. I was 16 or so when the first game hit - so yeah, "too old."
I've actually never played one of the regular "colored" games, just the spin-offs.
I think I would dig the Mystery Dungeon games though, as I'm a big fan of roguelikes.
