So what is everybody's thoughts on this game? I've been thinking about splurging on this game and was wondering if it was worth the $100+ US complete copies go for? I was thinking about importing it, but I heard most of the game is voice navigation telling you where to go and since I don't know japanese, this wouldn't help me much. I also heard it was really short only about 4 levels. It is one of the only games left on the Saturn that I really want to acquire. Any help will be appreciated.

I remember playing it in a Toys r Us shortly after my parents had gotten a Saturn for me when they were being marked down. I thought it was one of the best games I had ever played, and it probably was at the time. I have the Japanese version now, and have spent 10-15 minutes with it, and while it's a good game, it feels much more clunky than it did when it was released. I can't say I would recommend paying for a complete US copy at the prices they go for, but if you find the Japanese version for cheap, it's probably worth playing. I would think you could fumble around with it for a while without knowledge of Japanese. As a last resort, you might be able to get by with a walkthrough for the US version.

yeah you NEED the U.S. version if you want to actually play the game. There is a lot of direction on where you need to go and what to do. I own the game and have to say it is a really fun experience. It uses the 3D controller and has a lot of extra features to elongate the playtime of the game.

Is it worth the money? Not really. Although the game is great fun, unless you are dying to get it for nostalgia or to finish up a collection, it just isn't worth it.

It's a good game. I very much agree though, it's not worth the price it commands. Being a 90s platformer/action game the controls are clunky and the graphics are a bit hard on the eyes these days. I would say burn it or emulate it. It's good for a few hours of fun at the very least. It's certainly an interesting concept...

This is probably the best idea. If you haven't modded your Saturn already, it's a whole lot cheaper to just chip it, burn a copy of the US version and be done with it. Unless you feel the whole package would be worth the 100-some-odd dollar investment. You could actually get a mod chip, pay someone to mod your Saturn for you, and get a copy of the Japanese version, and still be fairly well under budget of the US version.

Great game. Gotta love the cheesy music too! Its a neat premise also and would be great to see what they could do today if they ever made a sequel(higly doubtful). Like already said tho it isn't worth a hundo unless you absolutely need it for your collection. Kinda sad how crazy prices have gotten for saturn games.

I bought it when it was first released here in the US. I still have never been able to get past the first level. That said, I don't really care for the game and have zero motivation to play it... ever. What also sucks is that there's no in-game music. I think the game is vastly overrated.

Despite its flaws, I think Burning Rangers is a great, quirky and unique game. I think, considering the time it was released in, the graphics, design and control are nice. I had a blast playing through the game, trying to find all the people stuck, collecting everything and re-playing levels (which also change through some random level generations, IIRC).

I couldn't say whether it's really worth the $100+, since I bought it for about £20 ($29) years and years ago, but one thing you have to consider is you won't be playing this game (or anything like it) anywhere else. If you like it (maybe try it on an emulator), then it may be worth it. What something is worth really comes down to the individual.

I went with the Japanese version (paid less than $15 for it) since it's just too damn expensive for a US release now.

It is completely playable in Japanese even though you might lose out on some of the charm of the voice navigation. However, I think it's worth experiencing the game any way you can and this way happens to be the cheapest option outside of emulation.

To build on what Pierrot said, you could also get an Action Replay, a JPN copy of Burning Rangers, and be WELL below the price of the US version. In fact, the savings of at least 50-70$ can net you a LOAD of Japanese games for the Saturn. Either way, I think your money can go a lot further investigating alternative options.
