I was using SIWHobie-wan wrote:Figure out what the motherboard is, then you can see what type of memory it will take. If you can't tell from the board or with the program you already fetched, SIW will tell you plenty of info about the machine, including the memory that's in there now.Michi wrote:But I downloaded a free system checker and it says that the maximum capacity for the machine is "8192MB." I don't think I'll need 8GB of ram for what I want to do with it, but its good to know I can always upgrade if necessary.
For memory, it's telling me:
Mem. Type - DDR (PC3200)
Max Capacity - 8192MB
Module Size - 4096MB
Mem sots - 2
Speed - 200MHz
Installed - 512MB
But the motherboard is an MS-7142, and according to this, it only "-Supports a maximum memory of 2GB."
So, if I go by the motherboard specs (as I can't yank out the computer and check at the moment), that means I can replace the existing 512MB ram with 2 1GB memory modules, yes?
My only question is (for all you far more computer savvy people) is that if all of the ram I'm searching for matches the all the required specs except they all say 400MHz instead of 200MHz. Is that going to be compatible with my computer? From what I've been reading, it says it will work, but some conformation (to ease my mind) would be nice
