Are there/will be good games for Wii U?
Are there/will be good games for Wii U?
I'm thinking of selling all my shit and buy a nextgen console instead. Nice to have stuff from 80s to 2000s but when it comes to actually playing them it's more of a hassle. Recently i liked snes-n64-gc the most besides SAT/DC and dont't have a Wii. A Wii U may be my choice but at this point i am unsure. i have checked the released games and there is no Bomberman, Castlevania, Mario Golf/Tennis/Whatever and no shmups at all. If there are new/future titles i don't know and are good, any recommendations welcome. I know Wii games are backward compatiible but that's not really a selling point - i could buy a Wii for much cheaper then. However i am interested in older games from the 1980-2000 era but the downloadable stuff isn't that impressive either. So whats the deal? A Wii, a Wii U or something else?

Current good retail:
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
ZombiU
New Super Mario Bros. U
New Super Luigi U
Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed
Need for Speed Most Wanted U
Lego City Undercover
Nintendo Land
eShop:
Trine 2 Directors Cut
Nano Assault Neo
Bit Trip Runner 2
Upcoming Retail:
Pikmin 3
Mario Kart 8
Super Mario 3D World
Bayonetta 2
Super Smash Bros for WiiU
Sonic: Lost World
eShop:
That 90's Arcade Racer
and surely some others
Those are my picks. There's really nothing as far as SHMUPs on the system, however, since it is backwards compatible with the Wii, you can find a few nice shooter collections. I really wouldn't recommend selling your collection just to get one, especially right now. I would however, recommend saving up for one, as there are some really cool titles coming.

Older. Not wiser.

If you can afford it and have the room maybe get both the VERTICAL Wii and WiiU? The Wii has a huge variety of games and right now on the cheap, bound to be some that you will like. There are also Wii games that support the Gamecube controller which leads to a huge variety of Arcade Sticks with an inexpensive adapter. There have been instances of a newer console not running every single older console game correctly. Not sure how the WiiU fares due to all the Wii games that have not been tested.dtrack wrote:I know Wii games are backward compatiible but that's not really a selling point - i could buy a Wii for much cheaper then. Has that ever been the case with Nintendo consoles? When they have backwards compatibility, it tends to be pretty much perfect. I don't recall any issues running any Game Boy or Game Boy Color game on the Game Boy Advance for example, and Wii runs Gamecube games just as well as a real Gamecube.CRTGAMER wrote:There have been instances of a newer console not running every single older console game correctly. The Wii U hardware is basically just a beefed up Wii. When you go into Wii mode on it, it just downclocks everything so it all behaves exactly as it did on the original hardware. It pretty much turns the console into a Wii, which is pretty much exactly what the Wii did when running Gamecube games. In fact, even homebrew still works in Wii mode, and IIRC hackers have been able to get Gamecube ISOs to boot in Wii mode too, though I imagine they can't play them because of the Wii U's lack of support for Gamecube controllers...
Which is worth noting: Wii U doesn't have Gamecube controller ports, so that's probably worth keeping in mind for playing Wii games on it. As far as I know, there isn't any game on the Wii that requires the Gamecube controller, but a lot of games support it, and in a lot of games it's the preferred control method.

Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem should be fun. Monolith soft is making some new RPG. If you don't have any 7th-gen consoles, there are some nice multiplats like Arkham City and Tekken Tag 2.
There will be good games, but I'd wait a while before buying a Wii U.

I bought my Wii U at launch for ZombiU alone.... It did not disappoint.

Game & Wario - Although not worth owning, it is definitely worth renting and experiencing. It is a really strange game
eShop:
Trine 2 Directors Cut
Nano Assault Neo
Bit Trip Runner 2
Upcoming Retail:
Pikmin 3
Mario Kart 8
Super Mario 3D World
Bayonetta 2
Super Smash Bros for WiiU

Wonderful 101
x
Watch Dogs - I know it is cross platform, but the game is hopefully going to be awesome regardless of the platform
Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD
Donkey Kong Country Returns
Yarn Yoshi
Rayman Legends - I feel this one is a must get for the WiiU and not the other systems, simply because of the touch pad functionality. It is a lot of fun to use and does a lot more than what was in New Super Mario Bros. U
eShop:
That 90's Arcade Racer
and surely some others
Armikrog - They were able to meet the stretch goal on their kickstarter and I am a huge fan of their work
Oddworld HD collection - Yes it is on other systems as well, but still is available on the system
Shovel Knight - Again, same as with Oddworld
I agree with this wholeheartedly. ZombiU was so much fun, I actually played through it twice. Definitely a great experience!Reprise wrote:I bought my Wii U at launch for ZombiU alone.... It did not disappoint.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Wii U Edition.
Includes extra modes and customization options compared to the other versions, including items to make the fighters look like Nintendo characters.
Seriously, how the hell did you guys forget about that?

The New Adventure Time will also probably be pretty rad on Wii U.
