So my mom wants a new laptop , and as a mac user and some one who has lost his way in the PC world I am not really sure which one to get.
We are looking for a Windows laptop that is:
1)Cheap or reasonably priced
2) Main uses will be browsing and youtube
3) low fan noise/ low heat
4) Really looking for a good display and sound
5) light weight , not a brick
6) Would love to have a dvd or if possible bluray drive
That is basically it. All laptops seem similar and what seems to be different is only the different brand name over it. I remember there was a time where Dell was the best then there was a time when HP was best (2005?) . Now I do not know what is going on.
I do not want to pick something then regret it because there was something I didn't pay attention to . This happens very often like when I picked my macbook in '09 and then realized it had a difficult time running games from '06 . Didnt pay attention for graphics card.

Re: Help me buy a laptop
You could get a chromebook for $250. Its light and great for internet and youtube. But you can't download programs and stuff like that cuz its only web based.

Thanks for your replies
@Ninja
I need a laptop not a tablet for specific reasons . I said it will mainly be used for browsing and youtube, not the only uses for it. I wanted to point out that I do not need a computer to do graphics design, video editing, play Crysis and such.
@Muhanad
thanks for your suggestion but I rather go with the Windows laptop. When I said cheap , I was trying to say "not expensive" . I am looking to spend around $800 or so because I know some laptops can reach thousands of dollars . Apple has one for $2800 , yikes!

Re: Help me buy a laptop
I think it will be difficult to find a brand new laptop that can play Crysis for $800 or below, unless you're willing to make do with second hand stuff. The only thing that I can think of is Alienware's Mx11 something, it's supposed to be a netbook-sized portable that has enough power to run crysis at decent settings, but I'm not entirely sure it goes for $800 (what I'm sure is that you might find it for under $1000)
Re: Help me buy a laptop
You can get a basic Laptop for under $400 and very likely will be more powerful then the older laptop it will be replacing. It won't play the latest games, but based on your OP description more then enough as a browser and to watch DVD movies.RCBH928 wrote:When I said cheap , I was trying to say "not expensive" . Re: Help me buy a laptop
I'm posting with an Inspiron M5030. My family gave it to me a few years ago for Christmas and I've been happy with it ever since. It has decent battery life and, in my opinion, an excellent keyboard. It doesn't get very hot, even sitting on blankets or my lap.
Specs: http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-15-m5030/pd
That HD screen is 1366x768x60. It supports much larger resolutions on projectors or TVs.
It can't run modern games, but watching 1080p videos with the latest codecs is no problem. The display and sound are both fine, and you can use the VGA port and headphone jack for a projector or HDTV or whatever. The DVD drive should be replaceable with blu-ray.
Cheap, and it does anything a non-gamer could want.

@Tintinmayo
Thanks for your reply , I am afraid I confused you. I said I do NOT need it to run Crysis. As in I do not need a powerful laptop
@CRT Gamer
Can you suggest brand names? Like Dell something or HP something
@Valkyrie
Thanx! I will look into it right away

Asus is a good brand. They seem to have diverse models that may be tailored for your needs. Keyword is diverse not convoluted as Samsung or Dell or HP.
