TV doesn't like the Saturn

Post by emurozii »

None of my Saturns work with my CRT TV, because the TV automatically switches been 4:3 and 16:9 constantly when using them. Furthermore, it only switches when a game is being played - otherwise, the TV stays in one of those two picture modes fine.

Only the Saturns do this, all my other consoles work with the TV fine. The Saturns were working on the TV before and have only started to do this today... Also, they both work on my monitor fine (with two different RGB scart cables, mind), so I don't know why they won't work on my CRT TV suddenly.

Does your TV have a game mode? Maybe try that.

I dont have an HD crt tv so I really dont know how they handle saturns.

Have you tried the ugly route and used RF cables?

I asked around and someone knew what the problem was - contact errors on the scart cables. For anyone who might be searching this same problem up, disconnecting pin 8 on the scart sorts it out! Also, if you have some external source of video input then that will work too (e.g. a DVD recorder).

Thanks for the reply though! I haven't actually used RF for years, so it certainly would be nostalgic! But mods can feel free to close this thread or whatever. Thanks!

Auto RGB switch should be made with the +5V line coming from the Saturn.
The +5V should connect at #14 and a resistor between this and the #8 should be put.
You could just try that. Auto channel switch is the best creation after the learning of the fire imo

Mmmhmm, SCART, I was gonna ask what location you're in. Makes a huge difference.

For any one that finds this in a search... SCART contains a pin that tells the TV what mode to go into, such as 4:3 or 16:9. However, in the USA, even though we don't have SCART we do have some TVs that'll auto switch from 4:3 to 16:9. Later CRTs could display a 16:9 image as a way of squeaking out a little better video quality from DVDs since the black "letterbox" bars count toward resolution. Some TVs, such as some Wega Trinitrons, can auto switch from 4:3 to 16:9 for you. So you see, you could have the problem in either region though for different reasons.

We don't do that around here, but if you could edit your first post and put *SOLVED* or *FIXED* in the thread title that would be most helpful.
