Ok -- so my wife has been bugging me to get Guitar Hero for the Wii -- she loves music games as she's a musician herself.
I'm kinda interested in it to and I thought doing drums would be of interest to me, so I thought going the Rock Band World Tour/Rock Band 2 route would be best.
So my question is, how do I decide which one to go with?
Rock Band 2 vs Guitar Hero World Tour

I'd say get Rock Band. It has a massive catalog of downloadable songs which really extend the experience for you. The Wii is going to be getting the DLC with Rock Band 2. Of course, if you have a PS3 or an Xbox 360, I'd recommend you go with one of those versions instead, as you'll have much more space for songs.

I just got RB1 for the PS3 this week. Haven't checked out any of the DLC yet. I also have GH 1&2.
Overall the music in RB is better and just plain cooler (coming from a music fan/snob) than past GH games. But GH also looks to have a pretty cool list of songs. I dunno. I'd say RB just because you know they are more supportive of it as a platform and because with RB you have the original guys who really created this type of game (or perfected it anyway) behind it.

Well the people (Red Octane) who made Guitar Hero fun now make Rock Band. And now Activision makes Guitar Hero. Anyways back to the point....
I read In a magazine somewhere that Activision is working on making Guitar Hero harder and harder every time. Now that's all good for the hardcore on Guitar Hero but it sucked all the fun out of Guitar Hero for me because it did get way too hard. Oh and Activision decided that every note in the songs should be guitar. Ummm the one that really stands out is Through the Fire and the Flames is that the opening is on keyboard but Activision thought that it should be on guitar and grrr makes me angry
So I would recommend rock Band for the simple act its fun and easy to pick up w/o having to memorize all the songs just so you can beat it.

My girlfriend and I have played both guitar hero 3 and rock band for the wii, and we liked the drums on rock band but the guitar parts were kind of dull, and boring to us since we started out on guitar hero. We also liked the guitar hero guitar a little bit better. We ended up selling rock band on craigslist about a month later.

Aren't the Rock Band 2 instruments supposed to be better?

Yes, the instruments on Rock Band 2 are fantastic. The drum is much more sturdy compared to Rock Band 1. And the strum bar on the RB2 guitar got fixed, so now it still has the smooth action, but there is a hard stop at the end, while the RB1 strum had more of a mushy feel.

Re: Rock Band 2 vs Guitar Hero World Tour
I prefer getting Rock Band 2 over GH:WT, To me the best thing to do is get Rock Band 1 (if you have a 360) export all the songs off of the disk, sell it at GameStop, use that store credit to Buy Rock Band 2 (just the game, trust me it will save you money), buy 2 used wireless Gibson Les Paul's, and you should be all set for now, since you got 2 guitars and already have over 100 songs available. Also, if you have it on the 360 or PS3, you can download new songs, they are released every Tuesday (360) and Thursday (PS3). So yeah, Rock Band 2 has good quantity of songs, sure Guitar Hero have exclusive deals with Van Halen, Eagles ect. but to me exclusive deals don't mean s#!t to me.

Rock Band FTW!
Guitar Hero just sucks now. When Songs are easier to play on a real guitar (AKA like through the fire and the flames, yes i really can play that in real life.) than playing them on expert that's when the game stops being fun...
