Saturn Cd board fried?

Yes it could be replaced, it will be fiddly, but not as much as the super tiny ones. That looks like a 101 on top, so if you could find a matching part and replace it. Capacitors do filter and condition power, so overloading it would blow it.

That's what I was thinking but how can I find out more about that particular one?

Would it be safe to assume that is how one can take the power from the PSU instead of from the mainboard 5 pin cable?

Well, you want 5V for the chip. It would be safer to take it from the PSU instead of from somewhere else as it's better to take closer to the source.

For the chip yes, but I was wondering how to power the CD drive directly from the 4 pin PSU connector, because of that blown capacitor it is currently getting no power.
Like the guy did in the video I've posted above.

You need to replace it. Bypassing things that a company bothered to put on the board unless it is region protection nonsense is not the answer. Sega would have saved the 1 to 2 cents for that component and left it off if it wasn't important as it adds up over thousands and thousands of consoles. Plus you're not sure what you did that blew it in the first place. It might have saved a more important chip that you can't replace from getting fried.

Any idea where I could source a replacement capacitor that will replace the blown one?
