Is there an "arcade perfect" port of The House of the Dead?

Post by Erik_Twice »

The original game, of course. So far I know of these ports:

Saturn
PC

Which aren't amazing, they have both been clearly toned down in graphical quality and make the game look more dated than it really is.

I tried emulation (Model 2) but emulation, well, emulates, which means there's a white flash everytime a bullet is fired which is nice in the arcade, bad for fiddling around on my computer.

Thoughts?

Have you tried the Wii version?

I've never played the arcade game, but I do love HOTD, and 2 and 3, on the Wii.

Yeah, I don't think that works

Shame Sega didn't port the original with 2&3, it would have been cool to have the full saga on the Wii.

As far as I know, there is no way to do it without the flash in the Model 2 emulator. Other than that, I think it is the best you are going to get.

Chattanooga Pinball is a good company to deal with, even if their prices are alittle high.

The flash is probably a genuine part of the game, as these light gun games worked with CRT monitors by flooding the screen with white. The CRT fills it in a specific order (e.g. starting top left, going right, then next line right to left etc.) and the delay between the trigger and the photodiode on the gun picking up the white from the screen allegedly tells the game where you are pointing at.

Why does it bother you? It was in the arcade :)

Its fine when you are standing four feet away, not when you are only about a foot and a half.
