Any other essential items for this system, also average price would be helpful as well.
5in1, or a 4in1 action replay cart will run around $25. It includes the ram, so that's all you'll need if you want to import. If you're into shumps and fighters, you might want an arcade stick. There are a few out there, some cheap, some expensive. I use a Virtua Stick, never needed anything else. It'll run around 5 to 10 dollars.

Hey GamingMonkey, I don't know what region you're in, but this is what I use in my Saturn.

Action Replay 4M Auto Plus

It's a little on the pricey side, but I really like how it works. Also, I own a Model 1 Saturn. You can generally tell what model you've got depending on the shape of its buttons. The controller also went through a change, so if you've got the beefy Model 1 controllers, you might want to switch out. I'm stuck with Model 1s for the moment, and they do hurt my game, especially the shoulder buttons. They just don't feel good to me.

Anyway, as folks have said, fighters and SHMUPS are the main draw of the Saturn, and it is a very import-heavy device. Racket's guide that Peffico put up is a good place to start with Fighters, and a Saturn SHMUP guide just got posted on the main page. But as you said, you've got Virtua Fighter 2 and Last Bronx already, so I'm gonna talk a bit about fighters. If you want 3D, there are a few other variations of Virtua Fighter games, specifically Virtua Fighter, Virtua Fighter: Remix, Virtua Fighter Kids, and Virtua Fighter Kids: Java Tea Edition. There's also Fighting Vipers and Fighter's Megamix. That really exhausts the 3D fighter area of the Saturn, at least as far as games that most folks talk about.

But hey, 2D is the way to go with a Saturn. You like the Darkstalkers series? They've got that, check eBay. Want 2D mech combat? Cyberbots is easily one of my favorite fighters on the console. You've got your X-Men fighters...X-Men: Children of the Atom, Marvel Super Heroes, Street Fighter vs. X-Men, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter. There are a multitude of Samurai Shodowns and King of Fighters on the console, and even a World Heroes title if you're into that(God knows I am). It's got the SF: Alpha series, as well as compilations of regular Street Fighter. Waku Waku 7, Astra Superstars, multiple Fatal Furies...fighters are the place to be on this console!

Oh, and above all else...Pocket Fighter. You know you want it. And though Racket's list is good, that is by no means all the fighters on the console. Seriously, good times.

tons of great stuff on saturn. I had one earlier in the year (and 07) and owned played through most of the good stuff (so I thought) I now have a list of at least 5 more shmups and I still want psychic killer taramaru along with a few other games. It can be a very expensive platform to enjoy sadly and I have neither the time nor the money to enjoy it at the moment

To go along with the little you have to be rich to enjoy your Saturn sentiment, I just installed a modchip in my model 2 and it really wasn't that hard. My first time soldering and everything went pretty swimmingly. Now that I can play anything i want it makes the system much more enjoyable. You can get the chips from the site and they cost around the price of a game anyways. Really, the only reason why not to get a chip is if you're really afraid of soldering.
Don't that just look oh so tasty?

I would definitely recommend modding your Saturn. I bought a modchip once upon a time, but it disappeared for no reason in the world. Still kinda bitter about that.

Honestly, though: regardless of your preferences in videogames, the one game that you absolutely must play, by ALL MEANS is Panzer Dragoon Saga. BELIEVE the hype. It's the greatest game I've ever played.

I'd suggest Guardian Heroes, MegaMan X3 and X4, Die Hard Arcade/Dynamite Deka!, Three Dirty Dwarves, Metal Slug, and SF Alpha 2

If you want an arcade stick some seller on eBay is selling the Virtua Sticks for 10$ a piece + 10$ shipping (at least to the continental US) and they're brand new I just recently got one

http://cgi.ebay.com/Brand-New-Sega-Satu ... .m20.l1116 I hope that link works, it should take you to that virtua stick seller
