Just wondering what you guys think are the most reliable External HDD's? If you can, don't simply give me a brand, also give me a specific model to look at. Please disregard Western Digital. I've owned several WD drives and they all failed within 6 months or less. So I will not buy WD. It seems buying a hard drive no matter what is a total gamble as far as whether or not it will last, but I figured I'd ask anyway.
Here are a couple I'm looking at right now:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 22-178-109
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822157063
My Price range is around $100 and I'm looking for at least 1TB.
Thanks a bunch in advance for any help you guys can give!

Recommended External HDD's?
Going through deleting inactive accounts of mine as a security precaution. No hard feelings, but admins, if it is possible to delete this account, please do so. Thanks in advance!
Re: Recommended External HDD's?
I don't mean to derail the thread, but you shouldn't write off WD as a whole. WD and Seagate are the two top players in the (mechanical) HDD business, shunning one really diminishes your pick. If you had several WD drives fail on you within 6 months, you were either just really unlucky or the drives took abuse. Abuse not necessarily from you, could have been from the warehouse or the people that shipped it. I love NewEgg, but they don't take any special care when shipping OEM hard drives.
Isn't Transcend a "budget" type brand? I've used some flash memory from them, but I wouldn't even consider getting a mechanical hard drive from them. At least, not over WD or Seagate.
Sorry, I can't suggest anything for you. Just give you this tip: You can search for internal hard drives and then external enclosures. It might be possible to find a good deal on an internal drive then just slap it in a ~$15 external enclosure.

If you had several HDDs fail on you in 6 months, I think there is a problem outside of the brand you are buying.

Yay, we're all not being helpful.
I'll echo the same on HDs. Other than the Deathstar fiasco which is generaly believed to be have been caused by oversensitivity to heat, if you talk to any number of computer users, they'll swear up and down that "Brand X makes shit drives and they die all the time on me." The thing is, the more people you ask, the more even the spread.
I've had deathstars die under warranty and I had a Seagate drive die in under a month. I also have a Connor (old budget Seagate brand) drive from 94 that spent many years being carted to LAN parties and although it obviously isn't in regular use anymore, it still works fine. I have other decade old drives that used to be run 24-7 and still work when called upon.
