I'm actually surprised that a person who knows print can't simply "decipher" cursive - the letters don't look that different to me.

True story: my mother writes in cursive exclusively. I've never seen her print. She also still uses a typewriter rather than a computer.

And math teaching is somewhat lousy in most schools, including the ones I've worked in. The problem is that teachers have to rush to keep up with ridiculous and arbitrary state/federal standards and standardized testing guidelines. Thus concepts are presented in a vacuum - for instance, pi simply "equals 3.14" - most kids aren't even aware it's the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter.

Also, for me, its much slower to write in cursive than it is print, along with my writing going to shit if I try to write fast in cursive. So, the majority of my writing is an awkward mix of cursive and print with loops and connecting letters that's an absolute mess to read.

Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

Cursive is much quicker than print too, or should be.

Sorry, but I'm shocked that anyone would hate writing in cursive or give up on it. Then again I'm shocked when people wear paisley with stripes. I'm also shocked when people don't return their grocery carts.

You're probably right. Pretty sure they moved teaching it from second to third grade.

I hate cursive, but thankfully only use it when signing my name on job applications, debit/credit receipts, et al. At one point, I forgot how to do a cursive uppercase-F, so my mom told me to just do what is essentially a backwards 7 with a dash through the / in the backwards 7. Why? My first name starts with an F, but I typically go by my middle name.

I pretty much only write cursive when I'm doing signatures.

My handwriting is honestly fairly sloppy as it is, so I usually just print for legibility reasons, and that's when I'm actually going to handwrite something at all. I pretty much only write when jotting down notes to myself or something for later anyway. Especially important notes I'll just open up notepad.exe for.

Can't remember the last time I felt the need to send a physical letter. There's just so many other, easier, less expensive, and more immediate ways of communicating and keeping in touch with people.

Cursive is not faster, just because of the way I write. If I try to go as fast as I even print it looks so shit you can't read it. I'm shocked someone could not understand liking a certain style of writing. I hate writing in general, cursive is something I essentially use to sign off, and nothing more.

I hate writing in cursive. I generally felt is was a waste of time to learn and resented doing it in school. Conversely, if you know the alphabet, it shouldnt be too hard to decipher cursive...

I also never cared for the multiplication table way of learning. I just learned how to multiply, not necessarily with any table system.

My second grade teacher had us remember our multiples in song form. I still think of those songs when I'm trying to do multiplication in my head.
