Rough day for my daughter. We tried to get professional photographs taken of her, but she cried and fussed as soon as we set her down. No pictures were taken, we're going to try again in one week. Quite the embarrassing situation. I think she was confused and overwhelmed, this is maybe only the fifth time she's ever left our house. And we went out during a time of day that is typically her nap time, she ended up very much off schedule.

I also took her to the doctor this afternoon to get the second round of vaccines. She's a bit cranky now and I fear she won't sleep through the night.

Bone, your daughter is adorable! My kid saw and pointed while saying 'Phwee phwee (pretty) babby!'.

Makes me want another one so bad. Then mine pulls all the games off of the shelf and I reconsider.

Thanks! She is adorable, and very well-behaved today... so far (it's only 7 am).

Don't think I'll ever have another one myself - one is enough of a handful.

I'm sure the photographer deals with that situation all the time.

Frown: Had plans to go out to dinner with a few friends last night, and it wasn't until 7:30pm that I got the text "Dinner's off for tonight. Movie later?". And I never received another call nor text. What a waste of a Friday night.

Smile: Sweet potato empanadas for breakfast after a trip to the local Farmer's Market where we also stocked up on fruits and veggies.

The weather is quite favorable today, so a stogie may be in order later in the day.

Smile: Nice day. Preparing for a nice week long vacation in Missouri. We leave tomorrow. Weather should actually be nice for once. Normally it's too hot this time of year to really have much fun outside there in my opinion. I plan on lots of water skiing and wave-running.

Should be nice, I like Pomme De Terre and Stockton Lake. It helps they are closer. I don't ever go to Lake of the Ozarks but you should have fun.

This country needs more people writing in cursive if anything. We have kids who can't read or write in cursive? Humiliating. But kids probably send e-cards and senseless text messages to their family on Birthdays.

Any sincere note, letter, card, etc. should be penned in cursive, and I find it a jagged pill to swallow that not all schools teach the art of handwriting.


edit* Just spoke with my wife, who is an educator. She said the Senate is trying to pass a bill that requires schools to teach cursive and multiplication tables. Some schools don't teach multiplication tables and cursive, and will have to be forced to do so. Dear Lord.

That is straight coo coo bonkers. "A big part of the problem is that some of the teachers who are being hired, well, aren't smart". My wife is a peach, so I need to translate that for ya. What she was really saying is that schools hire some stupid ass teachers who aren't smart enough to know the times tables because their lesson plans are paint by the numbers and don't want to take the time to correct assignments written in cursive.

It boggles my brain that some teenagers look at cursive writing like it's fudging hieroglyphics. It's second grade level learning. SECOND GRADE. And what would this world be like without calculators? Better and smarter that's what. Same with spell check.

Just yesterday I went to a Sheetz for a soda and gas. I had a twenty, the soda with tax was $1.17 and I said "Put the rest on gas on number twelve". The cashie pulled out a calculator.

"It's 18.83" - Me

"Hold up for one second"- Cashier fumbling with calculator

"It's 18.83" - Me

"Sorry, I mashed divide"- Cashier

"It's 18.83" - Me

"Oh it is 18.83. How'd you know that?" - Cashier

Meanwhile the rest of the world laughs its collective nutsack off at us and how we "teach" math to students. The heavy use of calculators in the classroom is seriously the most detrimental thing you could possibly do to the math learning process. The rest of the educated world is so far ahead of us with math that it's pathetic. It's not about actually learning the concepts and how to apply them here, it's about learning to regurgitate the process on a calculator so you can get those high marks on the exam.

I'm in a similar boat to Megas on cursive. I personally learned it in about 2nd grade, but quit using it as soon as we quit learning it. They drilled us hard on making sure our letters were correct, and making sure it was neat, yet certain letters, like a capital S, I still write incorrectly because I prefer to. Also, for me, its much slower to write in cursive than it is print, along with my writing going to shit if I try to write fast in cursive. So, the majority of my writing is an awkward mix of cursive and print with loops and connecting letters that's an absolute mess to read.

As someone that did a lot of graffiti I think cursive, and hell even type print and other types of letter form, should be taught in an art class not in English classes. I honestly can't draw for shit but I can do amazing things with letters. That's almost an oxymoron.

I remember a friend was trying to work on his tags and wanted to do cursive one liners. The word he wrote started with an R. He thought that to capitalize a letter in cursive you just made it bigger. Needless to say I laughed and showed him a few different ways to do it.
