Wes Borland was far better than that band.

I like to pretend that Wes went full on stupid to distance himself from that poo poo band. Dude can thrash like crazy, and although he "fit" with the band, he was the "Tom Morella" of the band where he was obviously too talented to be lumped in with crumbs.

And I'm not saying Rocha was bad with RATM, but Morella was far more musically gifted.

you don't have to pretend anything. Even though he's been on-again/off-again with LB, he's definitely the experimental one. Have you heard any of his other projects like Big Dumb Face?

At any rate I'm not going to pretend I never liked LB, cuz when I was a moody teen I certainly was into the first two albums. But now LB would be more of a nostalgic guilty pleasure as a band, but Wes is still a hell of a guitar player.

And the Morella connection is just - neither of them tend to play their guitars like they're guitars, but rather more like 'what the heck can I make this thing sound like other than a guitar?'

Tom Morello is one of my favorite guitarists. I used to listen to RATM pretty often back in the day purely for his guitar work. That says a lot for me because I absolutely cannot stand any form of rap. I can't name any other guitarist that is so completely inventive with techniques. Tom Morello is in a completely different league than the Limp Biscit guy from anything I can remember (admittedly, I found the music so offensively obnoxious in Limp Biscuit that I have probably erased most of it from memory, so I would have to listen to him playing solo to really have a say).

not saying they're in the same league, but they approach the instrument the same. Not to just strum chords, but to try to get some interesting sounds out that don't even sound like a guitar. It fits the whole rock/rap thing certainly. Here's an example of what I mean:

I know Morello graduated from Harvard, but can someone confirm if he has or hasn't taught at Harvard as well? Doesn't say on Wiikipedia, but I swore he taught a music class at Harvard. Perhaps he was a guest lecturer at some point.

I had a roommate in college who was quite smitten with me for years, and used to say that her mission in life was to get me to cry, because she imagined my tears would be quarter-sized. (I don't think she realized that men typically have more narrow and deeper tear ducts than women. This was a lot of years ago, though.)
